sure it costs 200$ more... but if you are worried about price a switch lite costs the same... (I hate the portal lol)

I got a brand new switch lite for $120 on marketplace. It was unopened, so I got the satisfaction of unboxing it. It's probably the greatest tech deal I've ever gotten

I use my steamdeck to stream my ps5 and it works very well. However I did need to search extensively for controller layouts that use the trackpad as the dual sense touchpad and the back paddles as the home button

I can verify that the steamdeck does fine with remote play. However, you do loose the dual sense features.

The PS Portal when compared to other hardware available, really is super specific.
Only works if you have a PS5 or ps plus premium for cloud streaming. And if you have PS5, obviously need a catalogue of games for it.
If you are able to spend £200 for just a accessory basically, it is the best way to remote play PS5. Nice big screen that’s really nice quality even though not OLED. Not much heavier than a dual sense controller. And use of dual sense hardware means you do actually get to utilise those functions, as well as the surround sound system they use for the PS5.
But then, you could easily use your phone or any other device as a remote play and connect a controller.
Or, if you really want to game natively, other options exist now for not much more e.g. steam deck lcd 256gb js now just over £300. And you could use that for remote play as well (though much heavier).
Doesn’t help that for a streaming device, it only has wifi 5, not 6. Can’t use Bluetooth audio (even if it has worse latency than ps’ proprietary wireless connection, it would still be nice). And it cost £200). For a streaming accessory. Which can’t be used without wifi or if the ps network goes down (as it did recently). Because it can’t even directly connect to the PS5, like the wii u tablet could.
I don’t think the concept behind it is bad. People do actually like it because it fits their need. But for the price it could and should be much better.

It now cost less because the oled version came out, but I love handheld gaming and I have some many good games in my steamdeck

Isn’t it like buying the reverse of a Wii U? What’s the comparison here?

I really recommend the ROG Ally X. Its 100$ more then the steam deck, but it runs games way more better, and its way better!!
