HOW TO Update FIRMWARE on the GOPRO HERO 8 BLACK | The BEST METHOD

In this video I demonstrate how to update the firmware on the GoPro Hero 8 Black using the manual method. In our experience, this method is the best method to use for ensuring the firmware updates successfully the first time around.

I had tried this method with my GoPro Hero 8 Black in order to fix an issue with freezing when viewing all my media. Apparently it still didn't work after scouring the Internet for hours trying to obtain the solution. So the final decision was difficult: format the SanDisk SD card that came with the GoPro unit. That finally fixed it, but at the cost of erasing all media.

Good thing the GoPro Quik app on my Android smartphone has all the recent media saved before the micro SD formatting!

Worked like a charm, thanks. Updating via the app was doing nothing for me at all.

In addition to Piston Bikers' suggestion to create the folder named UPDATE, which is done at the time of extraction from the zip file, the entire UPDATE folder should be copied to the microSD card (not just the folder contents). It also appears to be worthwhile to delete that UPDATE folder from the microSD card after the update process has completed. Either reformat the microSD card in the camera or put it back in your laptop to delete that folder.
