When I download the software update, all that is downloaded is a letter file that I can't open. Any idea what's happening?

I used the wrong cable by accident and the firmware failed and now my camera wont turn on. Even after trying to reset and use new batteries or dummy battery, I just get a red light and camera wont even turn on now. Any suggestions?

Sony makes solid sensors and camera, but their customer service and their apps are just AWFUL. The Mac updater is absolutely broken--have tried on multiple computers (why we can't download direct to camera or put the update on an SD card like we used to is beyond me).
And god help you if you buy one of their tvs (it last just over the year's warranty) then you are left to no reputable repair service. it's a nightmare. Never buy one of their oled tvs.
