FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision.

This was actually a very well crafted emotionally stirring scene... The balance of the music, along with the 'Thump' and gentle shock-wave rustling the trees, worked really well.

I don't know why people disliked this one. I really like it. This movie has the Superman feel about it from the 80th and the technology of 2000. Man of Steel doesn't scream Superman at all. They wouldn't even really say "Superman" in the movie. But dont get me wrong. It was an okay Alien Movie. But this Movie has Superman written all over it. I always waited for the sequal to this movie that never came. :(

I don't care what people say, I enjoyed this film. It was a fitting end to a trilogy.  It was meant to take place after Superman 2 and if you view it that way then the film and where it fits makes more sense.  Superkid included. I suppose they could have got Gene Hackman to play Luthor again, a darker not joking Luthor. Lord knows Hackman could do that.  I had reservations about Spacey doing it, he did an okay job.  You get to see Superman perform some amazing feats in this film.  And this film was a Man vs Nature theme.  The idea behind the plot now that we are familiar with the New Krypton storylines in the DC books - it makes more sense as well.

A couple times a year I'll come back to the tube and search for this scene to be reminded of how beautiful it is. The combination of picture and orchestra/choir background is absolutely brilliant. And to top it off Superman falling back to earth in the Jesus Christ pose... A bold move of spirituality by the director.

Hands down one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.
