FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision.

the best superman scene ever in any Superman movie. It just shows how heroic and powerful Superman is. It also is a great way to introduce a hero to the world. No villians, just the simple act of saving people's lives from uh "mundane" accidents.

i like how they still keep the physics realistic, how everyone inside is still ragdolling around and that the nose of the plane isn't magically invulnerable to the amount of pressure it's under

This movie gets shit on so much, but this sequence is one of the most memorable action sequences of the last decade, and one of the most memorable in any Superman film. It epitomizes what the character is all about.

For someone who can travel at the speed of light, Superman sure does like to take his time to make the rescue seem really dramatic and last minute.

This movie had a tonne of action in it and very difficult and expensive sequences that they could now do much cheaper budget wise and technology wise.  Superman is much more alien like in this film, even in his appearance.  I know people said he looked botox, but he did stand out as Superman.  Brandon Routh was 6'4 and 225 pounds. That's a big man.  Henry Cavil was smaller and they trained him much differently - smaller height wise.  Cavil was on an insane diet and they had him doing cross fit like a mad man.
