Vitamin D is important but confusing. Find out how to boost vitamin D and much more.

0:00 Introduction: Vitamin D levels explained
1:40 Understanding the vitamin D receptor
6:25 How to boost low vitamin D
8:45 Learn more about vitamin D toxicity!

Today I want to cover what you really need to know about vitamin D.

The RDA for vitamin D is 600 IU for adults under 70 years old. But, the studies that support this amount are outdated.

Vitamin D reaches the cells through vitamin D receptors. Unfortunately, you can’t use blood tests to determine what’s happening in the cells, and various problems can occur with these receptors.

For example, about 30% of the population has a genetic problem with the vitamin D receptor, meaning they have a difficult time getting the vitamin D they need.

Many health conditions are directly related to a problem with the vitamin D receptor, including:
• Autoimmune diseases
• Breast cancer and colon cancer
• Certain cardiovascular diseases
• Certain cognitive diseases
• Diabetes (type 1 and type 2)
• Metabolic syndrome
• High blood pressure
• Tuberculosis and certain infections
• Lyme disease
• Hair loss
• Crohn’s disease
• Respiratory infections
• Asthma and food allergies
• Low back pain
• Vitiligo
• Osteoporosis
• COPD
• PTSD

How to increase vitamin D:
1. Take more vitamin D
2. Take your vitamin D supplements inconsistently
3. Take magnesium
4. Take zinc
5. Take bile salts
6. Consume omega-3 fatty acids
7. Consume vitamin K2
8. Take resveratrol, curcumin, quercetin, and sulforaphane
9. Consume butyrate (vegetables)

I haven't found anyone else that goes into this much depth to help. Not even my own doctors. I've had specialists, nutritionalists, many consultation after consultation. Many tests, poked and proded, many different medications and supplements and so on. My heath problems, which I've had my whole life, I've come to suspect is because of genetic deficiency of vitamin d and reception. I've watched dr berg for years and I'm so grateful to be given the information to start to finally be healthy and feel better. Thanks Dr. Berg

I was deficient in vitamin d3 having levels of 18. Then i started taking 10, 000 ius daily after listening doctor berg advice. I took it with fish oil. After 40 days of treatment, i got tested and my levels were 53.4. such an amazing and fast recovery it definitely surprised me. I'm from Pakistan and i wanna thank Dr. BERG for the knowledge he provided to us!!!

I have 22 for vitamin D and also suffer autoimmune. Whenever I take this vitamin, I get nausea, a light fever and bloating - so I completely stop taking it. But Dr. Berg has given wonderful idea to give a 3/4 days gap after each intake. I think this should work. Thank you Dr. Berg!!!

I recently contracted Covid. I take 5, 000 to 10, 000 IU usually. When I got sick I went up to 40, 000 to 50, 000 IU Vitamin D3. Also started taking Vitamin K2 with it. With it I took whole food C, and more zinc. The worst of the headache and shortness of breath lasted about 4 days. I'm doing ok now. Been about 2 weeks. Of course I take electrolyte powder lol. Thank you Dr Berg. I followed your advice first.

Can you please cover the genetic tests you often talk about. Where to do them and which ones are the most useful. Thanks!

Thank you for all this information. I literally have been going at it trying to find a balance between supplementation and food as well as understanding how Vitamin D works. The symptoms can be horrendous and the progress slow without proper guidelines. Great tips! 🌻❤

LONG TIME LISTENER, FIRST TIME CALLER.

Dr. Berg love that you are getting inspired by your own genetics to make more videos that are new. I'm on this same path of understanding my genetics. Looking back i can see how there were family members who struggled with certain conditions that were genetic and they never knew and because now I know I have these genetic predispositions. Now that we have the blessing of seeing our own genetics we can alter our enviroment.
:) Great video.

Vitamin D has to be converted into its active form in the body ( this is not what they measure on blood tests they measure the inactive form). Some genes will lessen this conversion rate. Meaning you might have plenty of vitamin D on your blood test but behind the scenes you aren't converting it to the proper form in order for it to be properly utilized by the receptor. MAG and Zinc are crucial for this conversion process. So if you have genetic predisposition to low vitamin D, or low mag, or low zinc ( yes there's genetics that can affect all those levels), you might not be getting the biggest bag for your buck with your vitamin D supplement.

If you haven't looked into Dr. Ben Lynch he has some great videos on genetics and has been a pioneer in this feild of using genetics to guide your medicine, and using food and supplements to correct those gene expressions etc.

So glad you are bringing awareness to this bio-individuality part of our care. 🥰 Dr. BERG THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU.

I take 20000 IU a day with k2, just tested levels after 6 months and came back 149 nmol/ml, no toxicity I feel so much better in general. Trust me go a high dose especially if you are older. Drink lots of water as well. I also eat plenty of yoghurt/kefir and walnuts to keep the gut healthy too, it helps.

I have been learning so much from Dr Berg. I never knew how important vitamin D is and I have been seeing remarkable difference in immunity since we started taking D3 with K

Wow, everything single thing you have said is true. I take all the vitamins listed and I DO notice a huge difference.
I also tried a week of different foods and something in Avocados gave me joint relief as well, I don't understand the how or why.
Got the keto book, more raw, and sun when I can, raining now, but usually 'cloudy' til 2pm.
Great video confirmation!❤️

Been struggling with candida for years. I tried everything possible. Supplementing D3 k2 magnesium along with caprylic acid knocked it out in 3 weeks.

I live in Florida for the winter and Canada in the summer. I love the sun and I have always gotten a beautiful tan every year. I have beautiful skin, I can’t remember the last time I was sick. I am 65 and have never taken medication or used sunscreen.

Wow what a perfect explanation is it? Thank you very much. I saw most of your videos they are very clear, easy to understand, the way you speak and pronounce words is very perfect. Thank again.

Boy does it feel like this video was made for me! I've been letting my body guide me (along with educational videos and medical recommendations from professionals) on what feels good to take in supplements, such as quercetin, zinc, K2, fish oil, and magnesium. I take 5000 IU's of vitamin D3 daily, and my blood levels were at exactly 50 ng/ml last I checked. So I assumed I was good. BUT, the more we look, the more we learn about the important details. My autoimmune issues still haunt me, and I'm disabled. So I will look into genetic testing for vitamin D receptors. This is the first possible avenue forward I've had in a year that really fits my circumstances. Definitely worth checking out. Thank you, Dr. Berg!
