EXTREME TEST - How bad is the Fx30 in low light?

There have been complaints about the low light performance with the Sony FX30, so I decided to do a little testing in an environment with poor lighting to see how much noise would be produced shooting in S-Log.

interesting that even after passing the native iso's theres a clear benefit to boosting in camera vs later in post. important info for those who were taught to always keep iso at the native which maxes dynamic range but sacrifices on the increase in noise.

This is the sort of test we can actually use.
To me on YouTube, the 8000 image is also beautiful. Amazing! 🤓

Good showcase. I tried a similar thing and found similar results. Don't have a clue on how SLOG 3 works but cranking the ISO and bringing down in post was cleaner every time.

I use the FX30 for shooting weddings without any issues. I use a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens and typically shoot at 1/100 shutter speed. As a result, my ISO settings are usually between 2000 and 8000 after lunch and in the evening. This is fine for me because I like the grainy look in films, and these ISO settings give the footage a more natural film grain. It's perfect for my needs, and when I get an f1.4 lens, it will be a great combination for shooting in SLOG and dual ISO

Interesting experiment - I have had excellent results with the Sony FX30, Slog3 Cine EI (800 & 2500). I think I'll look at trying it at 6400 ISO as you did.

I shot at 6400, the noise is much worse. Maybe youtube made it so mushy you can't see much. And, also, I have much more complex and colorful background. The noise is much more visible and it's basically unusable. Other youtubers confirmed that such as Nicolas Wang.

I have that lens in the beginning of the video the Sony 18-105 f/4 g master! Is that what you used for low light test?

Can you clarify what is the light used? Did you use any denoise?

Tried at 120 fps. The low light difference is insane since it's cropping at 120fps and it's not using the full sensor.

quite impressed actually with the low light performance.

Interesting video... The aperture was 1.4? I have the same sigma 16mm.

there are many videos showing the fx30 killing it in low light, you just have to know how to use it.

nice, but please let's stop demanding the camera to give a bright footage when there's is no light in the scene....i don't get why people want to always want bright images at night. If it's too dark, lit the scene with external lights or get on with the moody dark environment.
