Dooku Finally Reveals WHY he Told Obi-Wan About Sidious!

At long last, we finally know!
It was always a wonder as to why Dooku would actually reveal to Obi-Wan Kenobi that there was a dark lord, Darth Sidious, behind the Senate. Was it because he felt for his former pupil, Qui-Gon Jinn, and wanted Kenobi to be safe? Was it because he wanted to kill Sidious and take over the galaxy, himself? Well, here's the real answer from Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno (legends, not canon anymore [but it is in my mind])

Something I always liked about Dooku is that even though he was a Sith Lord he wasn't completely consumed by the dark side and used his brain.

I think he genuinely wanted Sidious gone. He posed a threat to Dooku, knowing skywalker would be a future apprentice and the rule of two. Also he never seemed fully to the dark side. I think he just saw the flaws of the Jedi and was pulled to the dark by Sidious but would have ended up more neutral if Sidious was out of the picture.

My interpretation always that Dooku had primarily left the jedi order because Qui Gon was murdered by a sith. I feel he always wanted the sith gone and so he opted to infiltrate the sith with the aim of getting rid of sidious.

That is the reason why he told Obi Wan to join him and not the dark side. That is also why he only cut off Anakin's hand instead of killing Anakin. Dooku was as far as I was concerned the Severus Snape of the prequel trilogy. He had to do some bad things with a very good goal in mind.

I love Dooku was one of the most relaxed Sith in Star Wars, never letting the dark fully consume him, just for him to use it, like he did with the light side.

My interpretation of it was always that Dooku was just being sneaky with Obi Wan. He knew he was strong and was held in extremely high regard by the council, including Yoda himself and Qui Gon when he was still alive, so he propositioned Obi Wan to join the dark side without outright asking him to join the dark side, and have him distrust the council and the republic itself to make it easier. Obi Wan saw right through it though of course.

Imagine if Dooku had told Obi Wan that he left the Jedi order to find this "sith master", and to pretend that he would want to be his next apprentice. - Just so he could kill Sidious and destroy the sith for good! And then he needed Obi Wan to inform the council of this, so they could help him defeat Sheeve, next time they would have a "secret sith meeting".

he wasn't very cowardly in Phantom Menace. In fact when they surrounded him and killed his droids he stood strong and brave even during the whole firefight. Even facing down Padme afterwards

I think Obi-Wan has had a huge impact on Anakin’s life that it would have been plausible that he would have turned to the dark side if Obi-Wan died. He viewed Obi-Wan as a father, a brother, and a best friend, not to mention that Obi-Wan would’ve been the only one who had faith in him in the Jedi Order at this time because Ahsoka left. There would have been nothing left for Anakin in the jedi order if Obi-Wan died. So, yes. It would be possible for Anakin to turn to the Dark Side if Obi-Wan died.
