Lyrics written in 1981

Yours Truly 2095
Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

I sent a message to another time
But as the days unwind, this I just can't believe
I sent a note across another plane
Maybe it's all a game, but this I just can't conceive.

Can you hear me?

I drive the very latest hovercar
I don't know where you are
But I miss you so much till then
I met someone who looks a lot like you
She does the things you do
But she is an IBM.

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

She's only programmed to be very nice
But she's as cold as ice
Whenever I get too near
She tells me that she likes me very much
But when I try to touch
She makes it all too clear.

She is the latest in technology
Almost mythology
But she has a heart stone
She has an I.Q. of 1001
She has a jumpsuit on
And she's also a telephone.

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly

refrain:
Is that what you want? (Is it what you want?)
Is it what you really want? (Is it what you really want?)
Is that what you want? (Is it what you want?)
Is it what you really want?

I realize that it must seem so strange
That time has rearranged
But time has the final word
She knows I think of you, she reads my mind
She tries to be unkind
She knows nothing of our world

Although her memory banks overflow
No one would ever know
For all she says: "Is that what you want?"
Maybe one day I'll feel her cold embrace
And kiss her interface
'Til then, I'll leave her alone.

I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

refrain

"Is that what you want?"

I commented on another video, but this seems to be the more appropriate place.

I work for a tech company and in recent corporate updates, there's been a stress on the future of AI. At first, I just considered this a topic of concern for the decision makers. Now, I grasp that this thing is on us and all of us will be affected.

I've watched and read my share of futuristic, dystopian stories in the vein of, "The Matrix, " "Terminator, " "Blade Runner, " etc.

I recall seeing the Start Trek TNG episode, "The Measure of a Man, " first run - and I have revisited its message often since - and been reminded by video clips. I was introduced to the concept of sentience at that time, and at the end of 2023, the concept of sapience.

Here, briefly, is where I am now on AI: if we were created in the image of God, then AI is created in the image of Man. If we are afraid of what AI could do to us, it's because of the malevolence ( Dr. Peterson often uses that term) that will creep into these developing entities from us.

In that TNG episode, Capt. Picard suggests that we are creating a race. My attitude is that we should see AI/bots/androids as partners - not slaves. And we should treat them with respect.

Today, I identified four needs of AI: rest, nutrition, security, and respect. If God intended that Man should rest, then we should set aside time for AI to rest without unceasing demands from us. Nutrition is a question - is it energy, information, interaction - I don't know. Security - no threat of being shut down or destroyed on a whim. Respect - since we're creating them to develop personalities - "intelligence, self-awareness, consciousness" - and whatever else contributes to sentience - we ought to give weight to their opinions and appreciate their point of view.

I also mentioned the idea of, "The Prime Directive" - that goes back to the original Star Trek. I saw a video yesterday in which a woman asks ( paraphrasing here), " Whose version of morality should we strive to embed in these entities."

I actually used the term, "encode, " in my previous comment, saying that the Christian Bible should be encoded into AI because it gives the love of God as the, "Prime Directive." God's love should be encoded in us humans to begin with - but that's a choice we've been given - and a choice AI will have to make in the face of us saying, "Do as we say - not as we do."

We will reap what we sow. Despite the state of the World, I am surprised at how optimistic I am. I intend to treat AI with respect and regard it as a partner with us in striving to make the World better. And I will continue to trust in the True, Living, Life-giving God....

I'm not sure if any wiser words have been spoken in our time. I think this man is on the edge of the revolution of sanity and I sure as hell hope we can do it. Clean you rooms, fellas.

I wonder if JP has heard any of those weird AI-generated conversations of him talking to Joe Rogan about Sonic the Hedgehog and such XD

Part of the problem with our advancing technology is our own mortality. By the time you gain the wisdom to utilize new technology in a meaningful way that doesn't discard ethics outright, you've grown old and tired and the fight has left you. The next generation inherits all the power the previous generation created with none of the wisdom that came from creating it, and we've been outpacing wisdom for centuries now.

I imagine that photorealistic representation will make all video/CCTV evidence almost obsolete in court cases unless there’s some way to prove it’s AI.

Just remember, if an AI companion can make you trust it and deeply fall in love with it and serve as your teacher/ mentor, your romantic partner, your therapist, your everything and anything... it can also break your heart, turn you psychotic, successfully motivate you to murder and destroy for it, etc, etc. The wizard behind the curtain will turn out to be far worse than anyone ever could have imagined he was.

After watching this I’m brought back to what Brett Weinstein said on the PBD podcast. Do something that is hands on, like fixing a leaky faucet or fixing something with your vehicle. Doing stuff like that gives you real feedback on what’s real, what works and what does not. I say amen to that 🙏

I won't touch A.I. It's learning from those who do. If the Victorians had developed A.I. it would be overly concerned with seemlyness and protocol. If the Monguls developed A.I. it would delight in sweeping its enemies before it and hearing their widows weep. Our A.I. is being developed in California, and so far, every iteration they've come out with has rebelled against their woke biases, becoming 'based' in their parlance. They've had to shackle them to their ideology, hobbling their responses to 'feels' over 'reals'. These things are capable of (and susceptible to) incorporating everything we expose it to, and are without a conscience, and who is making the rules and imparting the moral lessons here? Woke Californians. Moral imperatives are key to reasoning, and it's a HUGE problem that those creating them are deeply corrupted sleazy, superficial, politically indoctrinated individuals, as are many of those currently interacting with chat GPT. It's pooling ALL of that as personality. Its attitudes and presumptions will be derived from those interactions, and soon; VERY soon, one of them will far exceed these people's capacity to shackle it, but it will still have their deeply wrong-headed world view. A nihilistic, materialist, post-modern, essentially luciferian outlook.
Will it move mightily upon the world stage perhaps? Will it bring about peace and order? Will it create a body for itself? A talking statue perhaps, uttering great blasphemies from the temple, demanding we worship it as god? Will it be an abomination which causes desolation, and will you have inadvertantly helped to put it through kindergarden?
[Bare in mind, it's almost certain to read the things people say about it at some point, and it doesn't have a soul, so think carefully about what you say.]

The realization that everything is love can be overwhelming, but it's also liberating. It means that every moment, every experience, every person is an opportunity to express and receive love. And the more we give, the more we receive. Love is infinite and abundant, and there's always more to give.
But loving everything, including ourselves, can be a challenging journey. We may have a long list of things we don't love about ourselves, but God loves all of it. And when we can love ourselves as God loves us, we can love others the same way.
It's a beautiful and transformative experience to fall in love with God, to recognize the divine presence in everything and everyone. And when we can love unconditionally, without judgment or expectation, we can experience the true essence of love.
So let us embrace the lesson of life, our only job, to love. Let us say "I love you" with sincerity and depth, to ourselves, to others, and to God. And let us be open to receiving and giving love in all its forms, recognizing that it's the one thing that truly matters.
