Politicians including US President Joe Biden and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan have found themselves victims of deepfakes.

These are fake images or audio recordings generated by artificial intelligence and have spread rapidly across social media.

Although, there are politicians across the world who have not only embraced this technology but used it on themselves.

For many, it has raised concerns about public trust in politicians.

This video is from BBC Click, the BBC’s flagship technology programme.

The problem isn't so much that we distrust politicians and what we see, no less from journalism like the BBC. The problem is that nowadays our main source of information and experience of the world comes from online where AI can proliferate.

America deepfakes, Britain catches on. Always.

It’s a good thing if we can scale back technology dramatically. I learned of the horrors of AI at university over two decades ago. It’s scared me then and it’s utterly frightening now. It’s not just AI, it’s all technology.

The people who developed and released AI to the public should know this would happen.

We might be witnessing the “Trinity test” equivalent soon.
I saw a video yesterday referencing James Cameron’s quote during an interview, when he talked about Terminator and AI technology.
He said there’s no technology in history that has not been weaponised.

Gives a story that only barely mentions the subject of the title. Great job, Britain.

This needs to be a criminal offence. As does lying to the public if an MP or a news outlet.

Ban politics from social media, they have been abusing it far longer then ai.

This is why I dislike AI & fake things it can do. It make it more and more who to believe.

There needs to be some class action defamation suits, that climb up to highest courts in countries, and drives some seedy individuals and propaganda networks bankrupt.

If I see a video of Sunak saying he cares for the poor and wants to sort out the NHS you know its fake.

I think the use os these technologies should be regulated, even outlawed in some cases.

KATE MIDDLETON
Deepfakes are a serious concern. SAG-AFTRA went on strike for 118 days in 2023 due to issues related to this technology. There may be claims in the future about a public figure passing away from "cancer." It's important to note that domestic violence is unacceptable, regardless of one's status or future prospects.

Currently, there is sympathy for King Charles, as it appears Prince William has been involved in a significant controversy. The situation seems quite complicated, and there is concern for the safety of the children involved.

We might eventually have to cryptographically sign official media releases, and verification built into social media apps. That said legitimate whistleblower recordings could end up easily dismissed. Who knows where this all goes in a few years.
