Being against unjust and unethical wars is patriotic.

This song is anti war, anti imperialism and pro veterans.

Now that's real patriotism.

I recall Bruce’s reaction to Reagan referencing the song in a speech was wondering in a seething tone what Reagan’s favourite record of his was.

That's why he is "The BOSS"

I can only see it as both. You can be patriotic and still see the wrongs

I love how people think they’re the only one who knows the real meaning. The lyrics are obvious. More people get it than you think

I think that's kind of what makes it patriotic. Because he was standing up for veterans before it was a cool thing to do.

And when I see a veteran that was in the Vietnam War, I don't say thank you for your service I tell them welcome back.

PEOPLE HAVEN'T THOUGHT THAT FOR 20 YEARS

What it says in the song "born in the USA" is ironic, as if saying that I was born here and the system is wrong, a young man is sent to Vietnam and when he returns he has nothing and no one, he fought in a war he didn't know about, That song is more in tune with the veterans, showing their discontent and anger at how they were treated and how they suffered on their return, many lost friends, wives, arrived traumatized and had no support from the government

He did a version in his Broadway performance that may better reflect the true meaning of the song. Highly recommend

I've known what it was about since June 4, 1984.

To me, it's a patriotic song because I relate a lot my beliefs

I always found the song patriotic because it criticizes something the songwriter loves.

I knew that part. I was in Tunis during the Gulf war and all white people there were accused of being American - even Ruslan, a Russian studying Arabic there. When they stopped playing American songs at my favorite cafe near Bourguiba School, I suggested asking them to play Born in the USA and a Canadian later mentioned that the song was not a pro USA song.

I would argue it is still patriotic to argue for better treatment of our veterans.

I saw him in Detroit and on the shuttle back to the hotel I mentioned to this guy that I don’t know why he didn’t play Born in the USA, and he said straight faced “that’s a horrible song”. That gave me chills

Lmao. If people just listen to the words in songs they wouldn't sound like idiots.

Is this what you wanted me to see?

Same with Fortunate Son by CCR.
It's actually a protest song.

Protesting is the most patriotic thing you can do
