"Born In The U.S.A." From The Album "Born In The U.S.A." Lyrics :

Born down in a dead man's town
And the first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just to cover up

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says, "Son, if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said, "Son, don't you understand?"

Had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
I've got nowhere to run and nowhere to go

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I'm a long time daddy in the U.S.A.

I was born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking daddy in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a long gone daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I was

Bruce Springsteen. The only man that can make a song both patriotic, and anti war at same time. I tip my hat to you Bruce

The opening to this song shoots me right back to 1984. What an epic song by one of the most brilliant singers ever. Thank you so much for posting!

Bruce really raised hell in this song about the Vietnam war. To say he was just upset would be the understatement of the year. Whip it on Bruce!

I had surgery today and as I was waiting on the operation table this song came on. Talk about getting amped up!

Genius. Two chords throughout. Lyrics to have died for. Springsteen is the laureate of America's bleeding, working people.

This song was made to remind Americans that we completely mistreated the Vietnam veterans who fought honorably and bravely and never even got a thank you for it! My dad fought in the Vietnam War and he was Wounded in action he would never talk about it and he took the awful experience and memories of that war with him when he passed away in 2013! Thank you Dad and to all Vietnam veterans who fought!
Thank you Bruce for remembering the men who fought this war!

I’m not American, nor do I speak English as a native language. But just from his voice I could tell there is no way this is some glorious patriotic song. He’s singing it like both protesting and crying, it hits you hard, and harder still while reading the lyrics. Some may not call the veterans true heroes, but none can deny their true sacrifices

The definition of patriotism: loving your country so much that you criticize it because you want it to become a better version of it

My mother's first husband was forced to go to Vietnam at 19 years old. He came home and was outcast from society. She told me he would wake up screaming and not know where he was. Like many other young Americans, the horrors that he witnessed resulted in a ton of unchecked mental health issues and drug abuse. He ended up abandoning my mother and 1 year old sister at the time, hitchhiking up through California. He was eventually picked up and murdered by two men who then wrapped his body in carpet and rolled him down an embankment into a river. This song brings tears to my eyes. I hope he has some peace now 🙏

Very sad song. We need to become a beacon of hope for the world instead of fighting. In war, everyone loses.

I hear this played all the time at 4th of July events and every time I hear it there a little bit of me dies. People don't listen to the lyrics they are just like "Yeah I'm proud to be a citizen of the USA!" without understanding what it's about. THE SONG STRAIGHT UP TELLS YOU IT'S ABOUT VIETNAM!!!
