Adagio for Strings Agnus Dei HD

This is the last official song on the soundtrack besides the end credits song wich is "The Ladder" preformed by the progressive rock group "YES" (there a pretty awesome band you should check them out when you get a chance) . I would upload it but I don't need to get slapped with copyright infringement before I even get this channel off the ground. But anyway I will be uploading another song from the game that's not on the soundtrack for some odd reason but I think its the best track in the game so I ripped it and will upload it next.

For those wondering, this song actually dates back to the 1930s and was written by a composer named Samuel Barber. It was originally written for stringed instruments, hence it's original title, "Adagio for Strings". About 30 years later in 1967, Barber arranged it in a choral-arrangement with Latin words from the liturgical mass "Agnus Dei". This is what we're hearing in this video. It is known as "Agnus Dei". In my opinion it is even more beautiful than his original Adagio for Strings. The recording in this video is much faster than the original tempo, but I still think it sounds beautiful.

I remember playing this game when I was about 15 years old and seeing the world burning, hearing this song start and Karen Sajek telling you that you and 60k people in stasis are all that's left and enemies are incoming, it was rough. No other game had ever done that to me by that point in my life, changed what I wanted out of a video game forever more.

I fell in love with this game when it was released. I have never been without a copy since. Beautiful cinematics, gripping story, unmatched gameplay and just stunning choice in soundtrack. No other game before or since has taken me like the original Homeworld has.

What a hauntingly beautiful and moving piece!
The absolute joy that I feel when listening to this piece brings tears to my eyes.
It is used in the movie "We Were Soldiers, " fittingly, near the end of the movie, while looking at the insane death of men and carnage of battle and war, as if Creators Angels themselves were crying.

I used to love this soundtrack and this game. Bought the game the day of release. 16 years later I'm watching Tenacious D and hear this song and I remember that I've heard this song in a game before. Finally tracked it down and all the memories came flooding back. Kharak is burning 😔

I agree with Imperial. You do not forgive anyone for this type of crime, you make them regret it for every second they have left too live. .

It is the best and mot moving version of Agnus Dei i've ever heard.
Hearing this version again after so many years made me reassess my opinion of it after the last time I had heard a version of it (which it was exceedingly irritatingly oversused in the film "Platoon").
When I was 11 years younger (ie 10/11) playing Homeworld for the first time this scene made me cry, which shocked me as I'd really not been taking any notice of classical music at all. Powerful indeed!

This has always been my favorite version of this piece. I'm always amazed that it comes from a video game. And it's slower than some of the orchestral arrangements I've heard. All-around lovely.

The only upload of this song that doesn't have a long argument between Darwinists and Creationists.
