Bypass The Start Stop Technology On Your Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse, Cruze, & Malibu

Learn how you can bypass the Start/Stop technology on your Chevrolet. The following models have the Start Stop Technology on them that this will work for:
-Chevrolet Cruze
-Chevrolet Malibu
-Chevrolet Equinox
-Chevrolet Traverse

There are other vehicles that will have this technology on them and it will be the same process as the video shows you.

I know that the technology can be a pain in the butt to understand so hopefully this helps out and makes your vehicle experience that much better.

THE PROCESS
-Step 1: Shift the vehicle into the L, M, or S mode all the way at the bottom of the shift column.
-Step 2: Push the + symbol on your shifter the number of gears that your vehicle has. All Chevy's will come with either 6, 8, 9, or 10 speed transmissions. (On the Driver Information Cluster it will read L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6 etc.)
*MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PRESSED IT ENOUGH TIMES THAT IT STOPS MOVING UPIN NUMBERS.
This way the vehicle will still be in automatic and shift through all gears as if it were still in automatic mode.

Please hit that like and subscribe button to stay up to date on whats new with Chevrolet.

I have a 2019 Equinox and this bypass works perfectly. I also have a 2017 Ford Escape and that one has a simple on/off button for the stop/start. Much better.

Thank you so much for this video! I just bought a 2017 Cruze and the auto start/stop was driving me and my mom nuts - it was turning off the car AS WE STOPPING TO PARK!

Also if you pop the hood start the vehicle then close the hood it will disable it until you shut the vehicle off. There is a company that makes a pigtail that plugs in-between the hood open sensor harness that does this for you electronically

I have gotten use to it, and want better gas mileage anyway, but I did learn something with the video. I was not aware that the car would automatically shift from 1 to 9. I thought it would start our in 9 and stay there. So, I will be using this cheat. Thanks.

Thanks a million for the information. I just drove home after following your instructions and my Chevrolet Equinox 6 speed transmission shifted smoothly through the gears. My auto stop never came on.

Thanks man ! I just bought one and I was wondering how to disable this feature . It would be better if there was a way to disable this feature like an "on/off" switch. I just may forgot to click the right amount of speed levels and boom I'm getting a new transmission. I really hope they recall this feature or add something to where we can turn it off and keep it off without going through a million steps, but for now i guess this is how it has to be. Thanks again for sharing man!

I know this is video is about 4 years old now, but for anyone searching how to disable the car turning off when stopped (now 2023), current Equinox models have a button next to the Hazard lights button - it has a capital "A" inside a circular arrow. Pressing that will disable Stop/Start. Unfortunately, it needs to be pressed when first starting the vehicle every trip, but at least you don't have to do anything with the transmission shifter anymore as in this video.

i didnt know that i had auto stop until my brother's mechanic fixed my headlamps. There were two wires hanging by the battery terminal. We had no clue what it was so he plugged it up. When i got to a red light, the car cut off. Lo and behold, i have auto stop❓️😱😆
Had to unplug it because i think it's draining the battery. I had to give myself a jump 3x yesterday. My bro bought the car Used. There were a lot of things the dealer didn't share😢 i covered the wire with electrical tape. So yes you can disconnect the wire under the hood that is attached on the battery or pull the fuse out if you don't want to mess with the wire. The fuse is also attached to the wire🥴
Best wishes 😘

When we bought our 2018 Equinox we weren’t even told this feature was on the car, what it meant, etc. we bought it in cold weather and it took almost 2weeks before we realized what was even going on!
At first, we were upset, felt like it was going to be harder on the starter, battery, etc., but I have since changed my mind.
I’m not an engineer, aware of technologies that companies have access to and although initially irritated, now it’s not really an issue. The manufacturer states they have starters in these cars they have adapted to this feature, same with battery strain and other parts that we were concerned about.
So for us, we have decided they likely are the experts. There’s no disable switch because disabling it isn’t recommended. I’m sure lots of people will still choose to disable it but we’re fine with it after researching why it’s there.

You can go to the harness that’s located in front of the radiator under the hood, it’s purple and undue the harness and that will permanently keep it from engaging. I’ve heard on some models that the check engine light comes on and stays in until it’s plugged back in, but it’s just a sensor and won’t hurt your vehicle.

Thank you so much, didnt even know i could turn it off. I have read that this feature hurts the engine. Doesn't make sense to add it causes a problem fir you later.
