How to stop fighting in a relationship. How to stop fighting with your girlfriend. How to stop fighting in your marriage. How do you get your partner to open up? How do you get your partner to communicate about conflicts? How do you get your partner to listen to you?Great questions!

Chuck works with a lot of couples in his private practice. It is common for individuals to complain about their partner, and if done correctly, can be healthy. We’ve talked about it on numerous shows from the past about how we must “Complain without Blame” and the way to do this is to make a request of the other person.

The wrong way to complain is to “Complain with blame.” One of the ways to do this is to use criticism or contempt, and there is no better way to do it than to mock or mimic the other person. It’s never good. It doesn’t bring your partner closer to you. It pushes them further way and inflames the negativity of the relationship.

We talk a lot about things that just have to be eradicated from relationships and one of those things is yelling. It’s never ever okay to yell. It’s never ever okay to raise your voice. Another thing that must be removed from the relationship is this piece. It’s not okay to mock. It’s not okay to mimic. You must complain without blame, and the way to do this is to make a request of the other person.
