How much does a computer engineer make in a year?

In this video, we examine the average Computer Engineer salary in 2019. We gathered data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to determine the average salary of Computer Engineers. We also look at the historical salaries of Computer Engineers and the top 5 best metro areas by salary for Computer Engineers.

These income statistics are from the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program. These salaries do not include bonuses or benefits. In our opinion, these are the most accurate salary numbers (better than indeed, glassdoor, and payscale).
Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, and test computer systems and components such as processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers.

Duties
Computer hardware engineers typically do the following:

• Design new computer hardware, creating schematics of computer equipment to be built
• Test the computer hardware they design
• Analyze the test results and modify the design as needed
• Update existing computer equipment so that it will work with new software
• Oversee the manufacturing process for computer hardware

Many hardware engineers design devices used in manufactured products that incorporate processors and other computer components and that connect to the Internet. For example, many new cars, home appliances, and medical devices have Internet-ready computer systems built into them.

Computer hardware engineers ensure that computer hardware components work together with the latest software. Therefore, hardware engineers often work with software developers. For example, the hardware and software for mobile phones and other devices frequently are developed at the same time.

These number are real nice, but please review the curriculum at your university before shooting the gun on this major. I’m a 3rd years and although I love my major and have not regretted the extreme challenge, the dropout rate of fellow classmates for comp engr is incredible high (understandably). If you are choosing this major for Comp science opportunities you don’t have to torture yourself. At my university (ABET accredited if that plays a role and I can’t speak for every school) a bs in comp engr is enough cs courses to minor in cs, more then enough math courses to minor in math (calc 1-3, ode, lin alg, discrete), phys 1-2, and roughly 12 hours short of completing a double major in electrical engr. All this in a 4 year curriculum... the potential money you can make hopefully after grad alone can only be a drive for so much. If you share the passion, and joy of this area of engineering good luck, the road ahead is not easy, but worth it. 😂
