How Much Do Software Developers Earn? My Salary History (React)

A complete run down of every salary i've had as a React Developer. Nothing held back, just real numbers.

I’ve been a front end software developer for three years now, having worked 4 different roles from a software intern all the way through to an intermediate React Developer. Some of the most common and most taboo topics of working in tech is - how much do software engineers make, what's a good salary for a front end developer? A lot of the FANG employees are quite forward with this information, but it seems like everyone in the tier below are not.

I share my complete salary history as a front end software developer all the way from my first job in programming to my last full time role. The majority of my career so far has been in React, and i'd be classified as an intermediate to senior React developer.

Companies like Buffer - have a complete salary spreadsheet of every employee at the company ranging from the CEO to content marketer to software engineer. You can see exactly what everyone makes. This kind of transparency is hugely beneficial when negotiating salaries - both from an employers perspective as well as a potential candidates.

My history has been mainly in front end web technologies, focussing on React. I started off working in New Zealand before moving to Amsterdam but also getting offers from companies in Stockholm, Munich, and London.

You should always fight for what you're worth. Hoping this kind of transparency will help someone negotiate a better pay or prompt some discussions within your own network to ensure you're being paid fairly. I’ve been informed by many that I was underpaid in Amsterdam by around 10-15k which was... eye opening. If this has helped at all, would love to know.

This is a really valuable video! I am currently a college student living in the US, but I'm thinking about potentially moving outside of the US. This video gave some good insight as to what to expect in these different cities. Thank you!

Hey thanks a lot dude. I think including dates would be really useful to put the salary in economic context.

Was interesting hearing your insight. I'm located in Finland and just roughly 1, 5 years working as software developer. Wanted to verify whether I'm getting paid fairly or not and most videos were by those located in US so this was a cool one to watch. Thanks.

What would you say the salary difference is approximately for front end vs back end in Europe? Are they mostly looking for full stack these days?

Paid time off is generally different per company in the US. Not all companies give you only 14 days off. Some offer much more and some companies offer "unlimited paid time off" which means, take time off when you need it, make sure you are getting your work done or make sure it's covered while you are away.

You move roles quite regularly. Do you feel this comes up as an issue in interviews?

Good video man! I'm working as a full stack dev for a year and a half in Brazil and I've always wanted to live abroad. In your opinion How much of experiencie is enough to get a job in New Zealand? It has a lot of offers there or is it kinda of saturated? How to have an Idea of those things from here?

you should add some writing in your videos to keep things a little bit more organized and clear for people. This was a lot of information and numbers layed out pretty quickly

As someone who is in the process of learning kotlin with the goal of ultimately making apps for restaurants. I have the basics down, the hardest for me is implementing the basics into the real world. I can fix small issues here and there by googling not a huge problem. But as to making like a fully functioning app, even just a little swipe can be a pain in the butt to figure out and stackoverflow is one of the least helpful websites I've come across. People are very very unhelpful and quite rude.

Can anyone recommend a book I can read to start making apps that are presentable in my first interview?
