Blender modeling: try these 3 exercises to improve fast

These are 3 Blender projects you should model for maximum learning value. Which one will you try?

Not all practice is created equal, so make sure you choose your projects wisely to get the most out of them.

🚲 Bicycle is a great one! Why? When modeling bikes in Blender, proportions are key - and they need to match human proportions. You will instantly know if you're not getting it right. Also, why not measure your own bike as the ultimate reference? Bonus: you can make the model as simple or as detailed as you feel comfortable with.

🍳 Kitchen interior is the next thing to tackle as a Blender model All the cups and dishes add up to dozens of mini-exercises you will complete and come out with a great scene in the end. Bonus: this is a great opportunity for instancing; you can copy a lot of objects to make your scene nicely full.

🏃Character model may seem intimidating if you're a beginner, but organic modeling is amazing to try even at a basic level. It's going to push your topology and edge flow, which will make you a better modeler (even if you're looking to become a hard surface modeler). Again, proportions are key: you can get a nice looking character even with simple forms. Plus, even an awkward result means you will have learned a lot.

Great advice, I'll give them a try soon.

First, I need to sort out my bad habit of getting excited over new project ideas and leaving my models unfinished.

As a Low-Poly 3D modeler of 3 years, I'd love to say that this video is a creative way to practice and help you achieve the step of your goal to get to be able to do more advanced work. 5-stars from me. :)

Kind of on target with your suggestion of modelling a kitchen, one of the first things I started modelling was a scale layout of my house. The kitchen I modeled was based on my actual kitchen, so I had references right there to work from. Same with the living room. And now if I see some new piece of furniture I think I might like, I can model it and place it into the room in Blender to see what it might look like or if it would even fit.
Every piece of furniture presents a different challenge and requires different techniques to do. A recliner is very different from a bookshelf, a computer desk, or a bed.

And once I had the basic parts together, I used some of the other layers to create a "what if" version of the house where I imagined knocking out interior walls and adding a second story. It's really rough and not really suitable for rendering, but kind of fun to play with.

Since it's the summer for me, I want to get good at modeling and maybe animation before grade 8. Since I really like drawing and and watching animations, I want to make something that I like as well. This was really helpful, I think I might start with a character first, since I found a very helpful Tutorial that fits my needs, and then do a kitchen, and after put some time into a bike :) thanks for this video, it's very helpful/ informative :))

Before character i would suggest to model a car.
Cars are combination of hard surface and organic shapes, and due to shiny surface topology do matter.
Also modeling car learns that modeling workflow differs from straight forward logic eg. You have to model whole car shape first and not part by part (doors, hood) and so one.

I struggled with modeling a slice of toast today (I’m embarrassed to say). Starting this video excited and then seeing A BIKE I almost threw up. Then A KITCHEN?!? OMFG... MY ANXIETY! I got a LONG way to go when it comes to modeling and learning Blender. Definitely thinking about trying some of the courses on your CG Cookie’s website. I am DETERMINED TO LEARN!!!

This exercise was amazing and really helped me out
Was able to model one thing at a time and had no confidence for a big scene rendering like a kitchen

i started making 3d models 13 years ago, and this stuff never made me bored, and is funny how you can find everything on the internet these days, i spent a ton of cash in pretty lame books and i had a printed copy of the 3dmax documentation, yeah people, a printed copy of the software help menu. Love watching your channel, keep figting the good fight.

LOVE YOUR VIDEO! LOVE YOUR ADVICE! You don't have annoying music playing in this video. YOU seem to really care about the info you're sharing - and not just making the video because you love hearing your own voice or any quips only you think are funny ;) Keep up the great work!! :) And thank YOU!!!

I Really do appreciate that final statement about getting on the long road from the beginning. But the point on where you catched my attention was your invitation to turn knobs and try to discover a personal way to do things... Even without your tutorials!!!
A brave thing from the PR guy of a tuition community!!!
I'm now follwing and I'll check your other videos. Obviously I'll go to your site to give it a try too.
