The Overland Campaign between Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee was one of the most brutal and bloodiest military campaigns. It saw the most successful Confederate Army, the Army of Northern Virginia attempt to stop the Army of the Potomac from capturing their capital, Richmond, Virginia. Winfield Scott Hancock would play a prominent role in the Union Army during the campaign and win great acclaim for his performance.

This series has been my "must see" TV programming every Friday night. I can't wait to watch these, and I do rewatch the old episodes. I'm really enjoying the series and I do hope you continue making videos on individual commanders. I've learned a great deal through these videos. Keep up the excellent work.

Great series.... personally, I would love to see you bring back the history channel.... you could produce a great series of shows.

The wilderness campaign was even crazier than I thought.

The best lecture on specifically the Wilderness and Hancock since Ed Bearss's lecture I saw online. Thank you for the video, and look forward to more.

Could you do a full series on George H. Thomas? I find his story very interesting

Incredibly proud to say my gg grandfather served under Hancock on overland campaign and fought right at bloody angle.

Despite the wound he had at Gettysburg, Hancock insisted to return to duty. No wound or not would keep him away. At the Wilderness, Hancock's corps took a beating from the Texas brigade and fell back. Hays was killed and Wadsworth was wounded and captured, later died of wounds. At Spotsylvania, his Corps was the spearhead on the attack at the Mule Shoe. Capturing 4, 000 prisoners and two generals. Johnson and Steuart. The attack also saw the end of the Stonewall brigade. It ceased to exist.

Huzzah!! Hancock is back in the saddle, while the moves aren’t as great as they were years before, but his command will always be remembered!

It is odd how such horrid bloodletting makes such fascinating story to hear about, can't imagine the kind of courage needed to make those charges like ones performed in Spotsylvania and other of similar kind.

I would like to see you give a more detailed account of Hancocks actions at Gettysburg. He did so many things (During all three days!) that greatly affected the outcome of the battle. He doesn’t get half the credit that he deserves, largely in part, I think, due to everyone being so focused on Chamberlain’s bayonet charge. I have greatly enjoyed this series!

The animal instinct that surfaces in soldiers during hand to hand combat, is the epitome of the tragedy of war

Teacher again you out do yourself. It is so hard for me not to want to ask questions about the battles and about the division commanders and unending amount of other things but your focus is so good you are without peer in my opinion. Thank you. Merry Christmas.

You left out the part where Longstreet's flank attack on Hanock, who told ole Pete later "you rolled me up like a wet blanket"

Burnside throughout the war such a disappointment. Never ahead the pace always just late

Good stuff. I like everything except the constantly moving still photos. Maps particularly hide what I am trying to see. Overall: thumbs up and sub.

If Lee would not have pulled the artillery back from the horseshoe they would have been captured and maybe the whole line should have been pulled back possibly bringing a cold harbor casualties rate before cold harbor
