A few things that heavily influence your playing are your obvious level of intelligence, your keyboard background and your theory knowledge. While none of them are necessarily prerequisites to become a great bass player, they certainly contribute and combine to create your style. You can see the influence of keyboarding with many guitarists as well, especially when they compose music. Their use of funky chord structures and more intricate chord progressions in their writing stems directly from their familiarity with the keyboard.
