This was a great discussion of Jane Austen's characters and story lines. Persuasion is my favorite.

Persuasion is my favourite! It was also my first Jane Austen read.

I absolutely love Jane Austen. Emma was always my favorite until I read Pride and Prejudice and then it quickly took up residence as number one for me where it has stayed for the last 20 years.
I am really looking forward to Jane Austen July next month. I’m hoping to reread some of the ones I haven’t read recently.
Fun video ladies! 😊

its super interesting to hear both your ratings! i find it funny because i'm currently 17 and i read all of austen's novels between the ages of 14-17. hands down my favourite is northanger abbey and for the exact reasons you listed! i feel like as a naive teenage girl myself lol, i can relate to catherine more than any austen heroine (most of them have traits i want to embody but i don't really have). she was relatable and funny but maybe when im older i will see some of the flaws most adult readers can see. for now, i love love her!

Is interesting seeing you two lay them out like this. I've heard you talk about them so much, but I wasn't totally sure how they'd stack up to each other.
In Darcy's case, the letter helps to create distance between them while also increasing understanding between them.

I'm a recent Austen fan! I'm also an oddball, since my least fave (so far) is P&P. My top spot is currently S&S; but I'm currently reading Mansfield Park for the first time, and it has the potential to knock S&S out of first place!! It's BRILLIANT so far (I'm on page 100).

This was so fun to watch! It’s so hard to rank Austen’s books. I think mine would be 1 Pride and Prejudice 2 Northanger Abbey 3 Persuasion 4 Sense and Sensibility 5 Emma I haven’t read Mansfield Park. It’s on my list of must reads this year.

In July Katie from Books and Things and Melissa from Blatantly Bookish are hosting Jane Austen July - you might want to join in. :) I finished my reading of all of Jane Austen's novels last year, I was missing Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park before that. Don't know if I could rank them all though! I think Northanger Abbey is just like that because it's a parody on the gothic novel and so that's why Catherine is so naive. But I get how that can be annoying. :D

I’ve been planning on doing a video like this soon, but I need to read Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey still, so I guess it won’t be coming soon 😂 I can definitely see what you’re saying about Emma and Knightley, but I like them. But I do plan on rereading it soon. Your top two are my top two so far, though! I absolutely love Persuasion, and I actually have an opportunity to audition for it in a couple of months, so I’m super excited about that, I would love to be Anne!

This was fabulous! I was trying to think of my order. It's been so so long since I've read some of them. I think I'm 1. Persuasion, 2. P&P, 3. Emma, 4. S&S, 5. Mansfield Park, 6. Northanger Abbey. Persuasion is easily my fave and P&P is definitely number 2. I just reread Emma last year and loved it, even though Emma starts out super privaleged and annoying. She totally grew on me. It's been so long since I've read the others. Anywho. Great video!

I have not read all of Austen's books yet but of the 3 that I read I think Sense and Sensibility is my favourite. I read it in high school and it was my first Austen. I was expecting a classic to be difficult and boring and instead I couldn't put it down. I also had never watched the movie so the plot was completely new to me. With Pride and Prejudice I had watched the newer version with Keira Knightley and it's one of my favourite movies. Maybe because of this I felt the book didn't live up to my expectations. I think I need to re-read it but so far it has been my least favourite. I was pleasantly surprised with Emma. I knew Clueless was an adaptation of it so I knew some of the plot going in, but I also came into it knowing that a lot of people dislike the characters. I think because I had lower expectations with it, I was surprised to see how much I enjoyed it. It is currently my second favourite. I am looking forward to reading Persuasion next.

Naomi I love your Jane Austen editions!! Where did you get them?

My favorite Jane Austen book is Pride and Prejudice. It's so much apart of me that I'm always comparing it to other books, not just other Austen novels. I totally agree with everything you too said about Edmond from Mansfield Park. Fanny should have taken Henry Crawford 😆

Last year i read Jane Austen novellas called The Darcys of Pemberley and Return to Longbourn by Shannon Winslow. These are the continuing stories of Pride and Prejudice and really delves into Mary and Kittys characters. I love both of these books they're excellent and really stay true to the original world of P&P😃
