Went with a compressor, but as a novice to actually fixing these tires, these tips were super helpful.
...Long time listener... thanks all at GMBN for the great work and contributions to the GLOBAL mtb community. Best from California!

One of the most satisfying sounds in the world is a tire seating to a rim ☺️

Another thing you can do with really troublesome tires is inflate the tire with a tube, get it all seated, deflate the tube, then only pop the bead off on one side to remove the tube. Then add sealant and you've got one side already seated and you just need to get the other bead to lock in place. Also, rotate the wheel around to get the sealant dispersed

Good tips. Just set up my first set of tubeless tires and used an air compressor with the valve core out to seat the beads. Works like a charm and even fills about 20psi worth if you plug the stem with your finger before putting the core back in.

tip: you can also use the valve core from the tubes you don't longer need

Nobel Peace prize for you, dude! I have been breaking my back for a couple years getting that GD bead to seat with a hand pump. Cheers!

taking the valve core out is MONEY! That’s all I needed and it seeded! Thank YOU!

I've got a small dent in the side of my wheel which curves inward towards inner part of the rim where the tire would seat itself. Do you think this would prevent the tire from seating correctly?

THX for video - pulling out the valve core for initial inflation made all the difference - much appreciated

Was just about to convert my new bike to tubeless today and this vid came out, great timing. Took out the valve core and it was pretty damn easy. Thanks!

oldie but a goodie, i had my first issue seeding a bead, did your valve stem trick w/ my air compressor and wham! then put the stem back set the pump on and finished the job. Thx Neil.

An hour of sweating and swearing at my tire- 1 min of video, core out and POP!! Thank you!!

tip. After you inflate without the valve core to 40ish PSI. Place your thumb over the valve hole asap after disconnecting the pump. Then return the core into the valve quickly and it will keep the bead from popping off if it is a tricky set up.

if you are still having trouble. A trick my Dad taught me is to put grease where the bead is not setting properly. and when inflating the grease acts like a lubricant and the bead sets in place. works every time I do it.

Thanks for the tips. Taking the valve core out was key.

I used an old tube on the outside of the tire when I tried to get it to pop. Worked really good.

I converted to tubeless (bike already had DT Swiss tubeless ready rims with Maxxis HR II tyres) and found my front tyre was going down straight away... weirdly the air was leaking from the holes where the spokes attach to the outer rim. after scratching my head i found it was because the tubeless valve was not seated correctly or tight enough and air was escaping into the rim chamber between the inner and outer rim...but sealant couldn't get into that chamber to seal it. A quick re-seat/tighten of the valve, inflate the tyre and spin the wheel a few times and job done...so much easier running tubeless!

I've been working on getting my tyres seated for the past 2 days, literally spent 5 hours yesterday and 4 today, I don't have an air chamber pump or a proper air compressor. I'm going to the bike shop tomorrow, let's see what happens.

Edit: forgot to mention, I have used TONS of tricks to try and help get it seated, I've watched and read over 100 different ways and tricks but nope

Thank you so much. This was really help full. Removed valve core and upped compressors output. It went pop. In a good way.

here's a Hack for you. If you have a stubborn tyre that you can't get to seat because the air is leaking out, spray some shaving foam around both side between the rim and tyre. It makes an airtight seal long enough for the tyre to pop onto the seat. Then just wash the foam away. BOOM
