A classic fried cake donut recipe that makes the most delicious old fashioned donuts ever! Light and crispy on the outside, tender, moist, and cakey on the inside.

Cake Donut Recipe ►
4 ounces (112 g) unsalted butter softened but not melted
5 ounces (140 g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs room temperature
6 ounces (168 g) buttermilk room temperature
15 ounces (420 g) All-Purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
32 ounces (896 g) oil for frying (4 cups) Peanut oil, vegetable oil, vegetable shortening (Crisco), or lard.

Classic Donut Glaze Recipe ►
5 ounces (140 g) powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons milk or water

Chocolate Donut Glaze ►
4 ounces (112 g) chocolate chips
2 Tablespoons butter
1 Tablespoon corn syrup or glucose/honey
2 Tablespoons heavy cream

Cinnamon Sugar ►
1 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons cinnamon

I'm probably blind but I don't see the quantity for the vanilla. 😢
I found it in the linked recipe - whew! LOL. Just an fyi, in case you weren't aware, the vanilla ingredient is the only item not listed in the recipe you posted with the video. For peeps like me who go off the video tutorial, it's an important miss.
My first batch, although tasted lovely, was too dense. Darnit. I don't know what I did wrong but round two begins tonight. Cannot wait!!

Hi Liz! I always look forward to your videos and was really excited about this one! A flavor of donut that I would love to see is a Boston cream donut filled with pastry cream or Bavarian and glazed with chocolate. Those are my all time favorite! I hope you consider making some of those😊

I made these yesterday after finding this vid. I found after rolling out half the dough that it was going to make more donuts than we would eat so I refrigerated the rest hoping it would be ok. This morning I took it out rolled it (a little thicker than you did) and it made the fluffiest softest donuts ever. Keeping you around lol.

So, cinnamon sugared cake donuts are so nice with apple cider in The Fall. We did that at home as a treat when I was growing up. Your doughnuts look very delicious.

When I made sugar cookies and I'm bored cutting shapes, I flatten the dough and use a pizza cutter to make squares, sticks, or odd shapes. Those are the family cookies 😀

Hi, my preference is sunflower oil with its neutral flavour. I avoid anything with canola oil as its flavour is unpleasant to me. Just a note, most baked goods in Australian supermarkets have a palm oil component. Thanks for your video.
