Fujifilm X-T3 Eye AF Vs. Sony A7iii Eye AF (Fuji Firmware 3.0 vs Sony Firmware 3.0)

Here is my Eye AF test for Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A7iii. Both on the latest firmware 3.0 with the latest Eye AF.

This is a good example why you need to do more research and not just rely on the review or test. He is using af-s instead of af-c for the xt3. Moving subject should be on af-c mode.

In these tests, Sony AS looks better, just because of the configuration of X-T3, it's set up to AF-S, that is why we often see that green focus square is out of the model. If the X-T3 set up to AF-C, the focus point should be almost always on the model eyes, even in the moment of shooting.

As a Fuji X-T3 user, I can attest the latest firmware has dramatically improved the face/eye autofocus, but it still lacks the speed and accuracy of the A7III. It’s definitely getting closer though.

To me the Sony nails the eye autofocus over 90% of the time but the XT-3 Is a little behind sometimes focusing on the subjects nose or hand if close to the eye, but the final results look great, Cameras these days are very capable given a good photographer behind the lense !

both look pretty damn fine to me... what i like as a portrait model photographer the most about eye AF is you can concerntrate on your creativity, composition etc instead of thumbling about getting focus on whats important..the eyes... great video Xing .. keep up the great work..

The small green square and its follow-up of the eye or the face during the shooting is not representative of the real AF on the final photo. Even when we see that it is late it does not mean that the final image will not be perfectly clear on the eye.
I did extensive comparative tests, and in the end, moving a lot, the success rate of the AF between the XT3 and the A73 is the same about 80%.
And when in a quiet situation or the subject does not move too much, as here in the video, the success is probably close to 100%.

This videos shows that with the Fuji, the square is pretty much all the time off the eyes !!!
Did you have eyes in focus even if the square seems to miss ???
I have an A7M3, an A7R2 and an A6400... These three put the AF square right on the eye, not somewhere in the head's area !!!
Maybe with Fuji it seems to be off, but the AF is still at the right place... But it's confusing !!!

Could you explain me how you set UP your X-T2 to make auto-focus + auto-shoot (3 or 5 pictures at Time) just by press AF-L button ?

Hoping Fuji closes the gap further with the XT200 and the XT4 cause at this point it's the only thing making me want a Sony. They keep failing to make an affordable camera with the things I want and Fuji just seems to be doing everything right.
