"This incident will be reported" is the funniest thing ever 😭

You have to be skilled to break a system this badly.

Debian has the most well balanced "ezpz" to "fuck you figure it out" ratio out of all distros. That said I like it quite a bit.

I installed Debian for 3 reasons:
1. I kept removing bloat from my Mint setup before realizing that I could get the results I wanted from an out of the box Debian install
2. It supports a wider range of architectures than most mainstream distros I see
3. It has a cool logo

Lesson learned:
Don't install broken packages, else the system will take damages.
Still using Debian, never disappointed.

0:51 He meant Debian Unstable, which is basically the closest thing to rolling release for Debian. The codename for it is indeed "Sid".

I am new to Linux. I installed Debian. I really like it.

It has not been a bad experience. I am grateful for the many YouTube videos that helped me. 🙂

I used to distrohop a lot, and now I just use arch because I don’t have to deal with, well anything listed here, everything is up to date, and I can install virtually anything I want from the aur, it’s basically the perfect distro.

debian is super stable and you can pretty much install everything you need from a single instance of terminal.
honestly you have to be actually, actively trying to break something to claim it's unstable.
hell once i was dicking around and somehow uninstalled grub, and still managed to recover quite easily.

*here are some stereotypes*

Debian is aimed at stability but has a pretty outdated packages compared to other stable distros
At least it's still better than Manjaro, they promised to keep the distro stable and check for packages before pushing however they just delayed the package updates for 2 weeks and mostly does nothing

currently i'm using lubuntu which seems fast and stable; am thinking of installing antix but its installer is frightening and i fear erasing something so for now it's on a usb. feel free to tell me what you think the fastest distro would be i've tried puppy, tinycore, and used peppermint for 2 years

linux mint will never fail you, i personally prefer arch, a nice distro to start on that path is endeavourOS . But yeah if you want the easiest expierience possible to start learning linux, linux mint is the way to go.

Man when I started with Linux I started with Debian and ive done nothing but enjoy it. I run all my servers on Debian, they're great. Proxmox which runs my lxcs and vms is Debian based and I've had nothing but success with Proxmox. I got the business I'm working at running on PVE and it's been a champ. I've recently begun using fedora Workstation 36/37 though for my work computer and i must say i loved it right out of the box.

This is pretty accurate. I use Debian quite a lot, but everything not being up to date is kind of annoying, so when installing Debian the first thing I do is switch to the testing branch which has newer packages. It’s basically between testing and sid. But even there the system (or at least the DE) can break easily with a single apt upgrade command.

I got myself a low-price laptop last month because I needed for school stuff. It came pre-installed with Windows 11 so I made sure to immediately get rid of it. But when installing Debian, I had a lot of trouble connecting to internet: the network card was too recent for the distro’s drivers. I installed it offline, then proceeded to switch to testing using my phone through mobile data (it took an entire afternoon for the upgrade). After the switch it did manage to recognize the network card and connect to a network, however it would’t stay connected long enough on my phone unless it was directly plugged in. It wasn’t until recently that I has the problem again of an apt upgrade that completely breaks everything.

After that I went looking for another distro, and I decided to try ArchLinux. And honestly, it’s pretty good! Yes the setup is a bit involved, but not as much as some other distros that get you to compile Linux (looking at you, Gentoo). Packages are up to date, the wiki is an excellent resource and you have the forums. And unlike with Debian, I didn’t have any problems with the network card right out of the box. I still have the problem of not being able to maintain a stable wireless connection between my phone and my laptop, but I mostly use USB tethering so that’s not really a problem.

personally i dont mind what people use but in my case i like me a fresh debian i find it really simple if i can from the start keep track of apt packages .

When I first started out I spent months finding the best distro, going from Ubuntu to Pop OS to Linux Mint to Arch back to Linux Mint, until I realized I liked the Debian parts of these distros the most. I didn’t even consider Debian an option though because I saw it as a relic with ancient packages that had been improved upon and rendered obsolete. I eventually tried it and now it’s my one and only distro.

I use Manjaro but they only allow stable releases and that might seem like a good thing but some AUR packages actually require the unstable stuff so it breaks. But if you don't use a lot of AURs and only flatpaks and tarballs it's nothing short of an amazing experience
