just a small reminder, rapiers aren't actually lighter than normal swords, they're just more built for thrusting and efficient kills

Fun fact: Also coming from the Indian Subcontinent is the Urumi, which is like a long floppy sword than can be used as a whip - sometimes with several blades!

One of my characters has an ocarina on a string and once you play the ocarina it heats up and explodes, you can use the string to throw it without burning your hand or to tie it around someone. Was pretty proud of myself for that one

rapiers are a really cool weapon because visually they have loads of potential (the handguards can be incredibly cool and intricate) and iirc historically they were more of a "decorative" item than a practical sword, but of course theres fencing so you never have to rule combat out, but you can use it for compelling storytelling about a characters history, status, interests more so than Standard Short Sword, ie a character from a noble background is trained with one, or a thief with sticky hands happened to acquire a particularly nice one (and they’re great for dnd, one of my characters is a bard with low str and high-ish dex and he uses a rapier partly because it’s a finesse weapon but mostly because it’s very visually appealing and fancy, fitting his character better and making him not useless in combat)

I ABSOLUTELY need this to be a full series! I’ve been struggling with weapon ideas for so long, it’s just been “sword, gun, staff, etc etc”

And you are allowed to pair a rapier with a buckler or other shield. Daggers were the most common pairing, but that's mostly due to ease of carrying a dagger in public daily. Bucklers are better for combat than parrying daggers, but less useful as a tool and more cumbersome. So play with different pairings for different situations. A character probably won't carry the same equipment when expecting battle than on a normal day in town.

I love how you included their area of origin! That would be very helpful in researching more about the weapons before picking one :)

Some other nice weapons are:
kukris(originating from Nepal, a curved machete-like blade)
Butterfly knife / balisong( a folding knife originating from the Philippines.)
The karambit(originated in Indonesian is a small curved knife resembling a claw. Can be serrated)
A Chokutō( a straight edged katana, origin from Japan during the 9th century)
Kali sticks / Escrima (a stick made for the Philippines martial arts)
An ice pick(not an actual weapon made for fighting but it sounds neat to be used in some scenarios)
Pike(European spear used during the Middle Ages. Can have an axe in some cases)
The claymore (two-handed sword used in Scotland from the 15th to 17th centuries)
