PetSmart has a MAJOR issue with marketing animals to children. They have an entire line of toy inspired enclosures for hamsters that are horribly small and based off of stuff like castles, racecars, rocket ships, ect. They also had a line of tiny tanks made to look like monsters for fish, they were basically just plastic bowls that you couldnt put any filtration or heat in

I work at Petsmart and I can personally say unfortunately our “care guides” are terrible and need to be updated. Everyone I work with at my store are very knowledgeable on the animals we sale. We DON’T recommend sand or co-housing. We explain proper care and give other resources for the customer to look up. I personally recommend your channel all the time.

I work a Petsmart, and everyone that was there before me knew that the care guides were wrong. So when someone is interested in geckos, I tell them most of the stuff they need to know but then I tell them to watch a bunch of your videos, so that they can write it down at home and remember it.

i got my leo from jolleys and all the reptiles there, that i could see, looked happy, healthy and the viv’s/tanks that the reptiles were in were honestly so good, they also asked me for photos of my set up and i thought that was great

Okay so I actually work at petsmart and I took it upon myself and wrote my own in-depth care guide for my store and we fully use it instead of the stores and I plan on sharing it with the other stores in the district so atleast some Petsmarts are trying 😅

When I worked at Petsmart I did everything I could to basically "lose" the guides they give for us to sell in store, always recommended deep research before purchase. I would even separate the geckos since they would want us to have like 4 in a tank, my answer was always "aggressive" and put the babies separated in the quarantine room until the one on the floor sold. Alas as I got fed up with their animal abuse and quit. Still worry about those animals there.

I was looking at the Petco Crestie care guide and there was a typo that said “take the chameleon out of the cage”

It also said they live 5-10 years

I have a perfect example of this:
I was thinking of getting a gecko so the person at the store gave me some brochures. It said to house them on calci-sand but the geckos at the store were not kept on it. Never said to use a thermostat. And it said that leos bask and that they need something to climb on to rest like a lizard with toe pads. So I did some extra research and about 6months later I got a gecko. I knew everything about leos. Like I would ask my friends to quiz me at lunch about random things. but now that I have one I keep second guessing myself and I never feel like I am doing the right thing. (WOW that went off topic)

With both a new petsmart and petco in my city, I can honestly say the difference is night and day. The quality of the staff, the inventory, and the health of animals for sale is not even close to eachother.

we have a shop near us called "pets corner" and they feed their feeder animals which has my respect.
