Educating people is important on things they did not know or familiar with 😊

Hope you were able to explain the situation to them at least

I would have just said “actually, this is likely the only time they’ll be sprayed today, so I’m making sure it stays properly humid for them even after I leave for the day”. I love taking the time to educate people on the job I’m doing, because then it also gets me away from extra work. 😹

My god, imagine if there were axolotls... I'm still waiting for the day someone starts accusing people of drowning salamanders

I love going to my petsmart because theirs a guy in the fish department that really knows what he’s doing. He’s helped me grow my plants for my fish by giving me the right things to add and even corrected me on myths about some of the animals which made me make the right purchases. He’s not that social but it’s great to have people that know what they’re doing!

That’s the worst- flashbacks of when one was misunderstood and we did nothing to explain ourselves. I hate that cringe feeling. You are not that guy! ❤

I currently work at a pet store, but it's a mom and pop type store. Most of the other employees don't have any idea about the reptiles or crested geckos. When I first got hired I tried to separate the two MALE crested geckos that were living together, they were covered in scars and looked so rough. Secondly I tried to explain that too much heat and not enough humidity will kill them, still every morning I'd find their heat lamps on and it being 90+ degrees. I can't remember how many times I would remind the others, I ended up just unplugging the heat lamp and putting it somewhere else.

To be fair, lots of PetSmart employees dont actually know how to care for those animals 😅

it’s true because I still tell my friends about the pet store that was leaving decaying dead fish in ALL the tanks and I asked them about it while they were chatting at the register and they said “oh yeah I’m supposed to do that” about clearing the dead fish😢 they didn’t know what ammonia was when I asked if they were worried about the water quality

As someone who keeps reptiles and fish. I LOVED working at petsmart. Felt very gratifying to properly educate customers, and care for the animals. Also denying sales to people who obviously had no intention on properly caring for or researching the animal they wanted to purchase

Reminds me of the nursery worker i met while looking for floating plants for my betta, she was an ex-employee of our countries petsmart equivalent and she worriedly asssured me that a betta fish cant survive in a tank bigger than a 5 gallon and that i should downsize my tank or it will die...

My local PetSmart was letting baby ferrets waste away in their enclosure filled with 💩 that was in a pile up the enclosure walls, bone dry water bottle, food with flys in it & dirty bedding. I said something to the employee, he brushed me off. I went back a few days later just to check, & they were even worse than before. Said something again, got treated like I was a “Karen”. So, I called their main headquarters in California… made sure to send them each photo I had taken, along with the names of each employee I spoke with. I did end up getting a phone call back from the district manager, & I can only hope each person who I dealt with lost their jobs. The best outcome would’ve been making *them* go stay in a glass enclosure with no fresh air, surrounded by their own feces & flys buzzing around their heads.

Knowing the shift before or after you won't but at the same time you don't want it to get to moldy. As a former employee, I relate to this so much-

Ignore ignorant people, thank you so much for taking good care of the animals! Anytime I’d visit the pet store, the humidity would be so low in some of the reptile terrariums that I had to tell the workers, and then I’d wait to watch them spray it. I’ve had reptiles, including cresties, and it’s so sad knowing how many pet store workers don’t properly care for the animals - we really do appreciate that you aren’t one of those workers!

When working at a pet store I had one girl “reorganize” the guinea pigs by how cute and sellable they were when I got in I noticed immediately because I had a favorite boy and he was mixed with 5 other females the damage was already done and in a few weeks we had a population boom but she was right the babies were cute.

I used to work at PetSmart as petcare and now I'm at Petco as basically their CEL so I know what you mean. I used to have 1 associate who never misted the tropical tanks and had to do what you're doing. Thanks for taking care of the animals at you're store bud!
