I used to have this problem. The absolute worse was waking up at night and panicking because the acid was so strong. I couldn’t breathe. I started eating real foods. Living food that requires sunlight. I found pineapple would provide immediate relief when I threw up in the middle of the night. But I would have 1 salad everyday. For 1 of my meals. And also an apple everyday. Laid off the soda and spicy food. I haven’t had heartburn or Gerd in years. Also incorporates apple cider vinegar. It takes time but that combo was the fix.

I’ve had GERD since grade 9 and had no idea. I was taking 30-40 ultra strength tums per day for years. Got tested for H. Pylori, which came back negative and finally got a scope at 25. Found out I also have a hiatal hernia. My gastroenterologist said it looked like someone had been rubbing battery acid on my esophagus for over 10 years. I’ve been on dexilant since and it has improved my quality of life so much. Pregnant now, still on dexilant and controlling the acid level in my reflux has been a game changer! I still have reflux but at least now it doesn’t burn so badly.

I had horrible acid reflux and Barrett’s esophagus for years. I was so miserable. Stopped eating several hours before bed, took Prevacid daily, and slept on a wedge pillow. Jan 2020 I started intermittent fasting and for a couple of months it seemed worse, then it just disappeared completely. I’ve now lost 45lbs and no longer sleep on a wedge and stopped taking Prevacid. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself!

🤗 Tips for my fellow acid refluxers 🤗

• Avoid the bad food & drink list for AR

• Don’t sleep flat keep your chest and head elevated somehow

• Keep an empty stomach 2 hrs before bed

• Try to get off the medication unless necessary most OTC pills make it worse overtime and suppress the problem

• Drink ACV occasionally

• Try water fasting

• Small meals - keep your stomach less full so that there is no “overflow”

• If things don’t get better make an appointment for an endoscopy from your doctor.

Best of luck peeps we got this 👍🏻🤗

I'm watching this the day before my gastroenterology appointment for my chronic acid reflux. I really appreciate that you didn't treat GERD like it's just a minor inconvenience like so many people do. It took me a long time to get the referral because so many doctors told me "well it's just acid reflux, everyone has that, it's not a big deal" even though I was losing significant amounts of weight from avoiding food. I might not have GERD specifically, but having constant acid reflux is debilitating and because nearly everyone has experienced acid reflux at least once in their life people tend not to think of it that way.

I'm suffered from it over 15 years with many trips to the ER and all the doctors treated me like I was having heart issue, until the old doctor in a small Arizona town came along and told me I had GERD. I never had this issue against since then, thank you my angelic doctor. I'm forever grateful to you.

i was diagnosed with gerd almost half a year ago. i’m only 20 years old and it’s been really rough :( started out with extreme chest pains so bad i couldn’t breathe, move or sleep normally for weeks. still a huge pain to this day since i can’t eat or drink how i usually do, and still get chest pains every now and then. it’s also really annoying to explain to my friends that want to go out for dinner and drinks, that i can’t even drink or eat certain foods. most people don’t even know what gerd is and take it lightly when it really is a big change in lifestyle. SENDING LOVE TO MY FELLOW GERD SUFFERERS <3 YOURE ALL DOING GREAT

As someone who got heartburn nearly everyday since being a small child, it's surprising hearing the term "gerd". I was also told that I just have severe acid reflux disease. I would get heartburn from something as simple as drinking water it felt like. I've been getting endoscapys since I was 10 and no one ever mentioned "gerd" so this is eye opening.

Acid Reflux happens because of stress & anxiety. The Stress state, or "Fight or Flight" is otherwise known as the Sympathetic Nervous System's response. This state compromises the stomach's ability to prepare to eat, produce stomach acid & digestive enzymes. Focus on releasing that stress & anxiety in some way, shape, or form. For me personally it's going to the gym and working out. Do something that makes your body feel at peace and quiet after it and your stomach will respond with a normal appetite feeling, the stomach will produce adequate stomach acid & digestive enzymes. P.S. Contrary to what most Gastrointerologists believe, Acid Reflux usually happens as a result of low stomach acid NOT too much stomach acid. When there's low stomach acid, food stays in the stomach longer than it should because there's insufficient stomach acid to break down the food (hence why it stays in the stomach longer than its supposed to), so the valve that releases food into the small intestine stays closed longer and the valve that releases food into the stomach opens up, thats why acid refluxes back up the esophagus.

I had severe GERD and was on prescribed esomeprazole (Nexium and others etc) which did help a little but long term use has risks attached, do your own research.
I ended up having Nissen Fundoplication surgery, It was the best decision i ever made. No more antacid drinks, off all medications and no severe chest pain or stress associated with it.
Another option may be a LINX Magnetic Band, not available in Australia or to people that have that have been diagnosed Barrett's esophagus.
Wishing you all the best health.
