Trigger foods
Some people choose to avoid common trigger foods, such as coffee and chocolate, to alleviate GERD symptoms. However, this approach has little clinical backing, while results vary between individuals.

Some common trigger foods may include:

- chocolate
- mint
- carbonated beverages
- acidic drinks, such as orange juice and coffee
- caffeine
- acidic foods, such as tomato sauce and citrus fruits
- spicy foods
- alcohol

People with GERD may choose to try eliminating each food type from their diet to see if their symptoms improve. If symptoms do not improve, they can incorporate the food type back into their diet.

In 2022 guidelines for diagnosing and managing GERD, the American College of Gastroenterology suggests avoiding trigger foods to help manage GERD symptoms. However, they also state that there is little evidence to support this recommendation.

I got "my" GERD by drinking too much coffee and 2-3 energy drinks almost every day when i was working in 3 shifts. Before that, i never touched energy drinks. After what followed was a nightmare. Symptoms may include globus, the feeling of a "lump" in your throat (it's quite a wonderful feeling, i image this is how it feels when someone is standing on your neck?), difficulty breathing, asthma like symptoms and my "favorite", the constant throat clearing because of mucus. Combine this with my allergies, my last summer was a nightmare. Got barely any sleep, sometimes woke up in the middle of the night just to have a panic attack and sit in the kitchen for 10 minutes, shaking, because i was thinking im gonna suffocate. I started reading about what can cause this, so i finally figured it out that it was GERD. The sleepless nights made me drink coffee again, that didn't help, just raised my blood pressure, so i got a new problem to add to the list, dizziness. I had to drastically change my diet, no more food after 8 pm. No more acidic food, vegetables, im eating less tomato, oranges. onion, garlic etc. I was actually surprised how much acid the tomato has, never knew this. Drinking less coffee, less carbonated drinks, i almost never drink soda. Trying to give up sugar, replace it with sweetener, but i can not give up on cake and sweets and ice cream. I now use Stevia in my tea, will try it out with coffee.

The video doesn't mention what he could have done to prevent it.

There are a few tips for treating heartburn at home
Ensure you drink enough water.
Avoid tomato rich dishes eg pizza and pasta
Avoid citrus fruit eg lemons, oranges
Avoid dairy products such as ice cream, sour cream and cottage cheese
(I read these and the reasons they work from Alinn Heartburn Relief site )

Heartburn didn’t cause esophageal cancer, the PPI did.

And ppi are a multi billion pound industry, strange how they can be bought from your local chemist when they can cause so much harm, i have major lpr, reflux that comes up into your sinuses, ive been prescribed nexium and after 1 week my sinuses are worse than ever but no reflux, im tapering off them now and telling my doctor i want surgery, that is the only answer, a tablet will never be the solution for most problems with the body, i only took these to give my throat a chance heal from the acid irritation damage, 2-8weeks they reckon, then its time to fix the problem properly.

I've dealt with it all my life, and along with my other health issues with will eventually kill me, I'm learning what's eventually going to happen with me. All I've had done for my heart burn and REFLUX is getting some pills. No surgery. No tests. So when I get cancer, and need Chemo, 'm not taking it. I'm going to paliative care. I'm stopping my G-Tube feedings, I'm taking the vent off, and taking out my trach, and I want my Morphine, and then that's it.

i'm going to assume everyone here has GERD. I suffer from acid reflux for years. I keep buying pepcid. It works well for a few hours and then it comes back and i have to keep taking another one.
I am sick and tired of feeling this burn in my chest. I need help. Does anyone know if your health insurance will cover the surgery to get rid of GERD?
