Is The Internet Dead? - DIT Explained

Could it be possible that a vast majority of the internet is “dead”? Its a question that almost does not make any sense at first. However, according to the dead internet theory that is exactly the case. The theory suggests that a wide majority of the internet and people we interact with on it, are actually just bots, or artificial intelligence. Could it be possible? If so, what would be reason behind all of these bots? Watch the video to figure these answers out and more.

its not the "human-like bots" that im worried about, its the humans that are seemingly "bot-like" now that terrifies me.

The main issue is that the internet feels more dead. Things are more homogenous, everything is constantly reposted, so it feels like bots are very present. And for sites like reddit and instagram, there are most likely a large amount of bot accounts, especially for political shilling and product placement.

There is no need to flod the internet with bots to influence the public opinion, controlling the algorithm that matchmake users with content is enough, and that is the real scary part

One of the biggest flaws with this theory is that convincing AI chat bots and especially GPT are actually trained on massive amounts of internet conversations and data. Without people on the internet, there would be no dataset to pull from. Without a dataset, there is no AI.

IMO, people give AI way too much credit. I work in machine learning, and it's often painfully obvious how limited most AI currently are. Everything these chat AI say is just stuff humans have said from their data, reformatted in a new way. There is no new meaning or intent behind an AI's words.

Even if hypothetically an AI with intent and meaning existed, current computers aren't powerful enough to run such an AI yet.
But they will be, eventually.

I think it was the end of chatrooms. Those were real people with real thoughts. It really felt like there was an actual attempt at being friends and learning from someone new. Back in 2000.

Maybe Chill Fuel has been AI generated content all along

Every Chill Fuel video is personalized

Took me a long time to realize "Chill" in Chill Fuel was referring to getting chills, not relaxing

this is like the less extreme version of the theory we are living in a simulation

The conformity study mentioned has definitely been reinforced worldwide over the past several years. Amazing how easy grasping the strings of control really are. Too many get used by the tech, rather than using the tech.

Plot twist: This video was made by a bot to make the whole theory seem outlandish and to further bolster their cover online.

I am actually more convinced that the "Dead Internet" theory is a hypothetical instead of an actual theory, considering a "theory" has to be a conclusion based on a dataset that's grounded on reality. Meanwhile, the precedent of a dead internet assumes so much of the unproven capabilities of AI. While online ads are pretty aggressive, algorithms are pattern-based and cue-based, so it is impossible for it to perfectly capture the nuances of a human personality, since it can't fully operate on the rules, or lack thereof, of entropy, as opposed to an actual human being.

The more people require to hide a conspiracy, the less likely the conspiracy is to be true. I think this is a good rule of thumb for these types of ideas. This one would require at least thousands, probably tens of thousands of people, from employees to programmers etc. Pretty unlikely

I'd say give it 10 years. I could easily see this being more of an issue then.

That being said, advertising bots are as bad today as they were 10 years ago, so who knows?

There’s not question that bots exist, but the theory that every single person on the internet except for me is a bot, that’s just not possible. My brother can post something right next to me and then I can view his content. I know it’s him.

"I'm not a bot!"

That's what a bot would say...

With increasing corporatism, fake influencers, and bots. The internet, to me at least, is dead and has been for a long time

This is very dangerous theory.
I'm already seeing extreme amount of people accusing other people who doesn't agree with them that they are bots.

Myspace was AWESOME for a couple years, and then within a week or two it dried up and became nothing but spam and everyone went over to Facebook. My friend was in college and it was promoted in his classes. To think this happened naturally is insanity. I suspect FB DDOSed Myspace. It doesn't have to be with bots, it could be with paid spam farms. Or it could just be bots to spam and make certain channels, sites unusable, so grass roots stuff just doesn't happen anymore.

If the bots are so smart… why Siri is still so stupid
