The Dead Internet Theory (Complete Edition)

The Dead Internet Theory - Complete Edition ➤ Let's talk about something deeply unsettling called the Dead Internet Theory. It suggests that a big chunk of what we see online isn't genuine – it's made by machines and influencers to shape our opinions. It's like finding out someone's been lying to you for years without you even realizing it. This theory hits a nerve with many who feel something's off about the internet but can't quite put their finger on it.

According to this theory, AI and influencers churn out most of what we see online, steering us towards certain products and ideas. This fake content has replaced the genuine human connections the internet was built on. Social media, once a place for real conversations, is now dominated by algorithms that reward sameness and punish diversity of thought.

The Dead Internet Theory also warns us about the rise of bots and algorithms, which control what we see and think online. Experts even predict that by the mid-2020s, almost all internet content will be generated by AI. These technologies can mimic human speech so well that it's hard to tell them apart from real people. This means our online conversations might not be as genuine as we think.

In short, the internet isn't what it used to be. It's become a place where machines and powerful interests control what we see and say. If we want to reclaim the internet as a space for real human connection and ideas, we'll need to push back against these forces and demand transparency and accountability online.

I miss the 90's, people had just the right mix of technology and real world social interaction.

It’s so hard for the real artists / musicians/ creators to even be seen or heard anymore on the internet.

The struggle is real man. I cannot even put into words how ruined our sad fragile society has become. We lost the fight against ourselves.

What's actually refreshing about the real world is that people's opinions are more balanced and genuine than what you see online, and I find that incredibly scary. Example, I'll say to someone "I don't mean to offend and I know the majority amount of people think but I actually Is it okay now that you know what I really think about it?"

More often than not, the other person will smile and chuckle, and give a response like, "If I ever met another person who actually thought the opposite of what you said, I would run straight for the hill in a heart beat."

As a self-proclaimed introvert, I am scared to realize how much I find myself preferring to interact with people outside of the internet compared to those online. I am exhausted of all of these never ending streams of extreme fake opinions made to rile you up.

15:52 "I don't want to be reassured that I'm correct.
I want to be challenged repeatedly so I can either strengthen my perspective or change it if necessary."
Such a beautiful take away and healthy angle to perceive thru life. Thank you for this.

I had an old broken computer I used from 2008 to 2011 to play games, browse the Internet, and so on. It was lying around, collecting dust. Recently, I had to toss it away, but before I did, I took out its hard drive and connected it via USB to my laptop to recover data, it was my mid to high school memories, after all. One of the things I got was my Opera browser full of bookmarks, hundreds of them, forums, Youtube, you name it. I had torrent files as well. Guess the percentage of the ones that were still working. 50%? 20%? 10%? Not even close. Internet Rot? More like Internet Nuke. XD

We're living in the dumbest cyberpunk possible.

This is the realest thing I’ve seen in 2023. I can’t even find some of the content that used to be on here YT; and now, ever since TikTok court, it’s been super controlled too. But I think the Internet died in around 2012.

I started using the internet in late 1996. In 2007, I had a little overba decade where I didn't use the internet. I came back to the internet to find it vastly different than how I'd left it. Very strange to me, even stranger when I found out I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Instead of thousands of individual sites, it now felt like a few central hubs of social media sites and everything else was just pointing to that.

This is brilliant. As an illustrator, I hate what the internet has become. Algorithms, manufactured anger, the lowest common denominator ruling. It's obscene. Unless you're safe for common consumption, white bread and mayonnaise you get hidden away.

I remember being on the internet back in the late 2000s and early 2010s as a kid and seeing the internet as a VAST media outlet with genuine people. I felt like every video was either a real person making it, or an edited caption video that had personality made into it.

But now lots of videos feel like soulless commercials. With faked business voices everyone uses to speak; and everything is off of a script, and not what the content creator wants to say or enacted.

I miss that random vid from 2009 of a wholesome guy with a southern accent talking about his favorite soda, recording at 360p with a comment section that was filled with genuine people interacting with eachother, and not bringing their stupid beliefs into an unrelated comment section just to argue.

One of the things I miss about the Internet is the fractal nature of its communities; they were all generally broad ranges, with niches online that were akin to winding streets and alleyways with hidden courts and alcoves. Now everything a giant surface parking area with billboards, discarded wrappers, and graffiti over what was once there, with any exits blocked by a paywall or a bad gateway. Geocities, Angelfire, IRC boards and forums of practically anything you could imagine with innumerable users continuously contributing. There is a palpable silence online now.

Why did I have to choose this to listen to before bed? Now my mind is racing. I’m an over-thinker and I’m constantly thinking about this stuff already. Here we go. Another few hours of research to do lol.

I could’ve sworn your channel was bigger than it actually is. I watched this video expecting millions of views of people who also watch your channel and get notified.

Channels like yours used to be big on YouTube and keep people curious. Now they’re silenced and shoved to the corner of YouTube that no one ever digs deep enough to find.

I’m already subbed to you and have notifications on but honestly I haven’t seen a video of yours come up in a while. I hadn’t seen any of the individually uploaded parts of this huge compilation. Why is that?

Why does YouTube stop showing me content from creators I am actually subscribed to and enjoy watching? YouTube pushes these smaller creators out until they eventually just quit and fall off the face of the earth.

Thank you for making this video. I’m aware of how much we’re being watched and manipulated everyday through our screens and this reaffirms that I’m not alone in this feeling.

I TRULY APOLOGIZE! I laughed at you dismissed the theory and criticized you some days ago or so. Anyway it stuck in my head and so I did some research on my own and you’re right. THIS IS A REAL THING! Sorry, I criticized you in public so it’s only right I apologise in public. Thanks!

I remember my first wow moment with the early internet was chatting in real time with people on the other side of the world in computer lab.

Every person on planet earth needs to watch this video. I am truly blown away by your effort, this video is so well done. Truly one of the best videos I have ever watched on YT, and I have watched thousands upon thousands of YT videos.

We have the same type of censored Internet system as China, except our government doesn’t give us the benefit of letting us know that, like China to their people.
