I can remember a bartender taking my ID and refusing to give it back when I was a legal wage and it was my CDL license. It took over 30 minutes of arguing and threatening to call the police for return my ID so I can legally do my job the next day.

Ive heard of stories where people think its fake, some keep it while others destroy it. If this happens, call the cops and say on or mear the premise. Its a federal offense and you can press charges for them destroying or keeping a real ID.

There was a case in Oklahoma a couple of years ago where a bar confiscated someone’s fake ID, and the person who had the fake ID called the police because they wouldn’t give it back. 🤦

Know a guy who got his very real passport taken by a bouncer when he visited NYC, because he thought it was fake. He had to call the police to get it back. His flight home was the next day

But if you're a bouncer be careful about taking fakes, especially out of state ones, because if it's not actually fake you can get in a lot of trouble and some states, like new jersey, have very cheap looking IDs that seem fake

I was in line at a bar once, and two guys tried to use two different identification cards with the same information. One was a drivers license, the other, a military ID. Even though both IDs were legitimate government IDs, the bouncer confiscated both.

Give the fake ID back and just deny entry. it’s better than a confrontation or getting your club trashed and windows broken after the club has closed. Signed someone in the legal field.

As a college student you very likely will not go to jail for it unless you’re stupid. You might lose your fake ID though. I never had a fake but I know a lot of people who did
