Do you run a 4K monitor (tell me which one)? Which GPU are you currently using? Let me know!

I came across this video as I am considering moving to a 4k monitor and this is just the kind of information I was looking for. I was very sad to find out only moments after watching this video that Kev had passed. I just wanted to say a big thank you to Kev's family for keeping the channel around. Even though he has moved on he has helped me make my decision and I do now feel comfortable knowing that i can safely go back to 1440p with little to no issue when i try out my 4k monitor. Thank you so much Kev.

I’m still using 1080p monitor. I run most games at medium to low settings for higher frame rate. Hopefully Navi will be cheap enough for me to upgrade.

This comment is for Kev's family and friends.
I want to thank you for leaving this channel up as Kev's insights, honest opinions and reviews have helped me in making buying decisions for years. He's also helped with topics like this video simply explaining some options and as a gamer himself what he personally does/did to get the most out of the experience. He is sorely missed and I am truly sorry for your loss and again, thank you...

Honestly, I have a 4k 60 Hz ultrawide dell monitor, and I play at 1440p. There's like no difference at all.

For those wishing to play at 2K on a 4K monitor. 1440P IS NOT 2K....it's slightly less which complicates the issue. Each single Pixel is actually displayed in a blocks of 4 led's, or lcd's in the panel. It is much better to set your resolution 2715x1527. That is a true 2K also exactly doubles the block of 4 to 8...."Perfectly"....resulting in a better picture without fudging it with anti aliasing to smooth out the odd number of LED's being used when 1440 is selected ! Fact ! Ps If you don't change the resolution as well in windows 10 ( resolution will not truly / completely achieve that picture.

the actual question should be "2K gaming running on a 4K monitor vs 2K gaming running on a 2k monitor"??? is there any difference in the visual quality if the monitors are of lets say similar quality??? like two monitors side by side one is 4k running a game on 2k resolution with same graphics settings and the other is a 2k monitor and the game is running on native 2k resolution with same graphics settings... its a simple question and i just cant find a clear answer to that...

What I would like to know is can you run lower resolution configurations that allow for fullscreen images ? For example I have a 3440 x 1440 monitor, but I can drop to 2560 x 1080 and get fullscreen utilization. If I go 2560 x 1440 I get letter-boxing. What resolution would enable this on a 4k monitor ?

The issue is frame rate when it comes to 4k

4k monitor vs 1440p, question

lets say same size, same specs, would a 4k monitor run at 1440p have the same video quality as its 1440p counter part? are thier cons? is its worst? my question is having best of both worlds, i would like to have a 4k for video quality and have the option to game at 1440p if the game needs to be, i would just like to make sure a 4k monitor run at 1440p would not be worst in terms of video quality then just getting a 1440p monitor

I think the best resolutions are intermediate resolutions like 1620p or 1800p. 1800p with Image Sharpening looks almost the same as 4K to me but has a 20%+ performance gain.

Why not use other in the middle resolutions? You can run as 2880x1620 or 3200x1800 with a great gain over 4K with a boost over 4k.

As someone who now owns a 4K monitor with a RTX 3070. I can confirm this. It is VERY game depended. Some games look fine some look worse regarding their settings.

I do notice a drop in crisp when going 1440p. But, honestly...if you`re running around and shooting and playing and doing stuff. You will not notice this.

ONly when you stand still and start looking at every individual leaf or grass then yes...you will see a difference between 2K and 4K

1440p or 1800p on my 4K TV, lots of older games run at native 4k locked 60fps. Games still look great

Thank you for this review. I’m looking at getting the Samsung Odyssey G9 4K ultra wide. I’m going to be building my new PC (3080 Ti, i9-12900kf on 32 gb for DDR5) and was just looking for a good reason to justify taking the leap up to 4K over the fairly new standard of 1440p.

I think it is more accurate of on what screen size and the distant your eyes is from the monitor. 1080p actually really fine in 24 inch and lower in a 3 foot distant or around meter from the monitor .

4K just seems like a waste of perfectly good frames for a minimal fidelity boost... I'd take 1440p with 144 fps vs 4K with 60, any day.
