great video as usual. i just upgraded from a 1080p 60hz monitor to a 1440p 165hz for gaming and media consumption and i can confidently say this is the best way to go if you value a mix of refresh rate and resolution or if you don't do any high end content creation.

ProTip: GPU's have significantly better quality hardware scaling than most any integrated chips on monitors. Use GPU scaling if you plan on using any resolutions other than the native of the display and the overall readability of text and sharpness of images will be significantly better. GPU scaling used to be a shit show like 10 years ago but it's no longer an issue.

Excellent comparison, I really did not find something better on youtube, especially for the comparison that shows at minute 3:20, you can see the superiority of having a higher resolution in the same number of inches, this pushed me to want a sharpness of That quality, I am a developer and I spend a large part of the day reading and writing code (letters), that is why the sharpness of the text is extremely important to me, for example, the sharpness of Apple screens is impressive, I found out and understood that It is because of the high ppi of its screens, all greater than 215 ppi, so if I wanted sharpness, I would have to look for a monitor with that pixel density, and a QHD(1440p) in 27 inches only offers 108 ppi, if I raise the resolution At 4k I get 163 ppi, a good thing but not as much as when you go up to 5k and you get 218 ppi, that amount of ppi makes the text brutally sharp and that's great for those who read and write most of the day in front of a monitor.
I hope this great comment helps other passionate programmers, editors, or readers to choose a monitor correctly.
PS: I currently use the LG Ultrafine 5k, and I use it with my Macbook Pro and a Dell G5.

4:53 Is lowering a native 4k monitor down to 1440p still cause an issue of blurriness, or has this been fixed (considering your video is 6 years old now).

question should be, at 2160p, if we scale at 150% in windows, it's the text and apps that scale which make it seem like 1440p and thus usable. however, images do not so at 4k with scaling in windows you have sharper images vs the same image in 1440p monitor. this is for windows only as mac osx scales everything you see, not just gui and text. the mac osx scaling does it a lot better as windows scaling only scales certain things and not pictures and movies as a whole properly.

thanks. only review that actually noted that downscaling a uhd monitor to qhd in order to read text IS NOT the same as watching 1440 on a qhd because 1440 isn't native to the uhd monitor.

Thank you for answering my question. I thought about buying a 4K monitor, and scale down the resolution to 2K when playing games which are more demanding and have the quality of a 2K monitor, but apparently I will have a lower quality image than with a native 2K monitor.

Windows 10 is the problem, not the monitors.

Metro apps look amazing on a 4k monitor with scaling. The problem is with old desktop applications, including the latest Office 365, which I use a lot. Menu writing blends into each other, some of the buttons are miniscule and copy and pasting images or screen prints between apps produces random sizes. You can fix it by going back to the standard 1920 x 1080 resolution which seems to be what Windows 10 is designed for, but then everything looks distorted, like an SD picture on an HD TV.

Hi, im currently looking for upgrade to my 27 1080 monitor, and struggling to decide which to choose - 27 144hz 1440p or 28 4k 60hz, which will be better, price is almost the same for them, the main question is how distinguishable is difference in sharpness and overall look between 1440p and 4k at 27 monitor, and will 144hz be better at regular games like Cyberpunk, Witcher, Diablo, The Outer Worlds, etc. I will buy 3080 so gpu performance is not a problem.

I'm so glad I watched this video, I picked up the Samsung Odyssey G5 1440p a few months ago, I love and everyting. I just always thought did I make a mistake by not getting a 4k? Now I'm very satisfied with my purchase with no doubts thanks to this video. This video brought to my attention something I didn't even consider before so thank you.
