In the world of gaming, what display you are playing on can make a massive difference in how much you enjoy your gaming experience. There’s a myriad of options, from resolutions and refresh rates, to response times and input latency, but in this video I want to focus in on the resolution. My top picks these days are 1440p - that’s 2560x1440 - and 4K - that’s 3840x2160. Remarkably, 4K and 1440p monitors often share the same price bracket, so it’s a pretty fair comparison and I’m sure makes your decision even more difficult! Let me walk you through the key differences and arm you with enough information to make an informed decision for yourself.

I recently bought the MSI G274QPF at Costco for 220 bucks which is an insane steal for a gaming monitor! 1440p resolution, 170hz refresh rate, Wide Color Gamete, Rapid IPS panel, 27 inch which is the sweet spot screen size for my desk setup and has more connection ports ! And was very satisfied as my early Christmas present!

With how expensive graphics cards these days and how poorly optimised games are at launch.. it probably makes sense for a lot of PC gamers to stick to 1440P. That goes double for people who are into competive games where FPS is considerably higher than that of running 4K that and obv scales with high refresh rates displays.. thus lowering latency and potentially gets you a small edge other others.

And with both consoles supporting that res now as well its doesn't make for a bad console experience either.

1440p still looks great on a 4K screen at 27" if your GPU can't run everything in 4K, plus you still have that 4K option for easier to run games/emulators and extra pixel real estate for videos, apps, etc.

1440p (or actually 4K) with VRR requires HDMI 2.1 on PS5. Only few 1440p monitors have it. Also it means that you will be running it "4K" 120hz (downscaled to 1440p) on PS5 if you want VRR. Basically you need to select 4K input on your PS5 (and your 1440p monitor). For example LG 27GR95QE has this option but other models using the same panel (Asus, Acer) don't have this because they only have HDMI 2.0 ports.

I play on a 4k monitor and I really love it, I have a 7600x cpu and 7900xtx gpu, this combo runs every game I throw at it.

This review is not of much use to the average user. The average user uses a monitor not only for games, but also for texting and browsing the internet. It would be useful if it also indicated how well it can display text.

I've being using an ultra wide 1440p. I have a 6800xt and nearly every game I can run max settings and still get 60-75fps. It seems a great combination and the ultrawide aspect really helps with emersion.

I did upscaling multiple times on PC games, and on EMU, it was always the same as a medium jump.
Even on vids shows it's not a big jump and pics show this too. I watched vids on my 4K TV and the jump isn't big like I said it's med.

People even on forums say the jump isn't that big in games, PC, or console.
Text is where it shows a big difference from 1440 to 4k,

Unoptimised games struggle to run native 4K even with monster cards like a 3080-4090. That problem doesn't always happen with 1440p. I'm thinking of switching back to 1440. I have been using a 4K screen since last year.
1440 I had used for like 6 year's

4k has been frustration with unoptimized/demanding games even using high settings, stutter/dropped fps

I dicided 1440p 240hz over 4k 60hz, cheaper ...plus i like the higher frame rate, i don't regret it, samsung 30inch g75t

If I was ok with lower fps is go 4k on my 3060ti and put a 30 fps cap, but unfortunately it bothers me too much. Im still on 1080p, im not too crazy about high refresh rates but i need a minimum of 60, I dont think its too much to ask, but apparently with games like starfield and jedi survivor it is, even in 1080p.

I run my 32-inch 4k monitor at a max of 144hz. I'm also running the Nvidia RTX 4090.

I have a LG 65" oled 120hz TV and my xbox series x can output 4k @ 120hz on certain games that support this. Not sure why this wasnt mentioned.

Can't you still run a 4k monitor at 1440p nullifying the reason to buy a 1440p monitor?

Hi all, i currently have a PS5 and would like a good monitor to go with it. What's better for console 4k or 1440p? Bearing in mind i will be using the same monitor for my MacBook pro too.

Ive got an 4K, 1440p and 1080p monitor in my setup.

144hz, 165hz and 240hz.

All were on the cheapest price ever and i love my 4K monitor most.

Would never give it back 😁

Excellent video. I switched back to 1440p from 4k and am enjoying increased fps and higher settings. My rtx 4080 is capable of 4k but it was noticably working harder and i had to lower settings. 2k is good for 4080.
