DIY evaporative misting cooler fan

A DIY evaporative cooler or mist fan that blows water droplets onto your skin to help cool you down.

If you've ever walked out of a shower and then stepped in front of a fan, you know how cold it can be. This is a similar idea. The water is blown onto your skin and it evaporates as the fan blows over you, cooling you down quickly.

The downside, when using this misting fan indoors is that everything around it will get wet and the room humidity will increase.

When using this outdoors, there's really no downside and it's an effective way of cooling people down.

You can have multiple bottles of water in the refrigerator and when this runs low you can keep pouring cold water into it. The bottle can also go on ice to keep it cold. Great idea for the setup. 👍

Just a quick suggestion on the air pump connection. You should be able to connect the outlet hose on the bottle cap instead rather than at the bottom of the bottle. Good job and I too am thinking of the same contraption.

I'm wondering if I ziptie flexible tubing onto my fan and get one of those adapters for irrigation systems and add a garden hose to it, that I can make a misting fan. You can add those brass misting heads to that tubing. As many as you want, but I have an 18" fan on a stand that stands about 3' tall. If I was out on my deck on a 100° day, that would feel so good! I have an overhead strip of misting tube, but the nozzles already don't work well and it's less than 1 year old!!!

I'm not entirely sure if it's correct to call this an evaporative cooler. Because the water droplets are landing on your skin and then evaporating to cool you down. But I think in order to be an evaporative cooler it might need the water to stay on a pad/sponge attached to the fan and then for the air to blow over that. So it might be more accurate to call this a misting fan.
