Hello from Puerto Rico. You are an incredible artist and it will take me a while to fully grasp your concepts by watching and re-watching your tutorials. This is why Photoshop is still the standard. There are so many methods of doing things that it boggles the mind. I've never seen your methods anywhere else and it's going to take me time to understand the "whys" of the things you do. My 67 year old mind sometimes gets confused 🙂. But I guess that's the challenge and the fun of learning new things.

Quick note !
In the tree part, you can fix the edges strokes by masking the top layer and paint white on the edges

When I mask with channels, I normally first duplicate the channel I want to use, so that I do not alter the original color of the picture. After duplicating it, I then apply the steps you also explained

I think it is easier to use a 50% gray layer( or whatever single color layer) underneath the top layer instead of changing the photoshop preference settings while using blending options isn't it?
