How to Stay Hopeful & Optimistic through Bad Times

Hey all! I've been trying to make more "on topic" fitness content, but I learned this while I was sick for a few days and really, really wanted to share with some of you.

Our mindset and perspective shapes how we see the world and tremendously impacts the actions we take. Being excited to live life isn't delusional. It's a tremendous advantage.

Different things motivate different people, but here's my advice:

Our environment and social group often determine our outlook. If our friends are Debbie Downers, we're likely negative as well.

If possible, find new friends. Hang out with new people that lift you up.

If you can't do this, consume positive content (podcasts, videos, articles, books, etc). There are many motivational people out there. Listen to people that teach you and make you excited to live life. Keep listening to them.

Thanks for listening!

Unemployed, burnt out, and behind bills. I was working 12 hours every day until I was terminated. It's been over 3 months, and every day has been terrible. I've succumbed to anxiety and depression, but watching your videos fills me with joy. Your videos have been slowly but surely helping me

As a creative person who has dealt with depression for most of my life, I want to re-emphasize what Hampton said about surrounding yourself with people who are supportive of not only you, but also what you are passionate about. I know from experience that having even a small community of like-minded people can be an absolute lifeline when your optimism and hope fade.

I've had the exact opposite story. I used to be optimistic until I immigrated to America. You are so wise, Hampton, to use that metaphor. It's mostly about mindset. Thank you for posting this!

As someone who was naturally hopeful and optimistic until going through traumatic events, I just want to go back to where I used to be. I want to feel like myself again. I appreciate the advice, and just knowing that there are people like you out there who can keep being positive and not letting the world break you makes me feel like I could change things for myself.

It’s sad his shorts get so many views but it doesn’t transfer over to his long form content… He is a good guy that people should listen to! For basically any & everything

I love this comment section. I've cried six times (I wish I was kidding) reading a few handful of these comments and I relate to this so well. It's just...a sense of understanding. I, and I'm sure, most people in this community have gained a sense of being understood, and heard. Thank you Hampton, for giving us this space. And never call your channel, or your hard work 'A fluke'. It's not - you, your hard work and your wonderful personality got you here. Thank you for being here.

Brotha - you are you and that's why we're here. You're the bob ross of fitness. As an HCP myself, you're moving mountains and doing so much good for so many physically and mentally. I'm learning simultaneously.

I'm probably a bit older than most your viewers as I'm over 50. As a long time sufferer of depression I can't agree more. You need to find the things in life that spark you. It's very hard to maintain optimism without that. Think I needed this today as I have lost another friend this past week, way to soon. At some point your confronted with how brief life is. Do the things you love now as tomorrow isn't guaranteed. The things that frustrate you today will be forgotten tomorrow. Perspective is everything. How you choose to frame things is very important. Listen to your internal dialogue, if it's not how you would speak to your loved ones change that voice! It also helps to sit down once a day and record three things you are grateful for. Do it for a few weeks and you find your mindset shifting.

Hampton, I’m feeling lonely and burnt out lately. Physically, I’m 100% well but my mentality in terms of mindset and confidence is wearing me down. I know this is only temporary I always know it will pass. I just wanted to say that your videos is helping me through the process of motivation. P.S. you actually uploaded this video at the right time, I needed this.

I’m going through a very very difficult time existentially since my 32nd birthday. but I’m making the promise to myself to carry on, to strive and work and press through it. to continue to show up for myself and my life and I know I’ll feel normal again. I’m here for you all and I want us all to win and to make it. Love y’all.

Bro I love your energy. This is a problem every real one deals with, it’s a sign of an intelligent mind. Take time to appreciate yourself and remember where you came from.

A good quote -
Be so busy watering your own grass that you don’t have time to look at others people’s.
