Hey guys! This video is all about helping you guys get into understanding BVR engagements and what your mindset should be, where your eyes should be in the cockpit, how you should be using your Radar and Data-link and what you should be looking for outside of the jet.

This BVR engagement is broken down into steps where I periodically pause the engagement and explain what is going on and what my next move will be.

Hey guys! I hope this video helps you guys get started with flying in BVR engagments, keep in mind that it will take a lot of practice and studying before you can get good at it, but once you understand the basics it can be a TON of fun!

If it wasn't for guys like you that take the time for these much needed vids, I would've bounced from DCS. Learning systems, flying, and fighting. This vid brought it together. Time to practice, Thank you.

I really need more practice in the F16, feels like I only know 30-40% of what it's capable of, but I get distracted every time by that awesome view out of the Cockpit, it is so cool looking around without anything in the way

He's using the wrong terminology when he says he's 'beaming' her- He's 'cranking' her which is putting enemy on your gimbal limit. Beaming is putting the enemies or incoming missile radar on your 3 or 9 oclock. You can't beam in this situation because your missiles are slaving to your radar and they'll lose lock. The F-16C's radar sweeps only 60 degrees left or right and beaming requires that you fly 90 degrees from the enemy radar. Beaming is to hide in the doppler clutter notch so enemy missile can't lock or loses lock. Cranking is forcing a missile to fly a much longer intercept path so you can maintain your lock on the enemy but the enemy radar/missile will still track you.

I just discovered your channel through YouTube recommendation and it’s just awesome! I just bought the f-16 and saw a video of Growling Sidewinder with the f-16 in a bvr fight and it seemed so hard and it is... but thanks to your video i understood it all and it is a lot of fun!

Good tutorial. I noticed you left the F-15 Eagle out of the discussion about Radar effectiveness? I have a couple of questions: Where is the indication of when the AMRAM will turn it's radar on? On the F/A-18 there is a loft mode. You however state that missile will know that it is going to have to go into this mode based on what it is being told by the A/C. I don't understand why one fighter is different than the other with regards to the employment of the missile? You also used the term relative motion of the incoming missile...so in other words if the missile has none you are still in danger? When you do have relative motion and the missile is drawing behind the plane you are safe or likely safe? Thanks again - my son has gotten me into DCS world and I have got the A-10IIC and F/A-18 familiarized and wanted to start the F-16.

What maneuver or technique made you win that engagement? Did she make a mistake perhaps or was it down to the plane?

Late on this one. An excellent explanation, thank you, however really struggle actually seeing things such as the oncoming missiles when watching these videos on You Tube. Whether something is lost visually in the uploading process or not can't say but often seems like things are being described that are nigh on impossible to make out. Thanks for taking the time to poat these tutorials though.
