Angélica Dass's photography challenges how we think about skin color and ethnic identity. In this personal talk, hear about the inspiration behind her portrait project, Humanæ, and her pursuit to document humanity's true colors rather than the untrue white, red, black and yellow associated with race.

Yesterday I made a presentation for my students with some of these lovely pictures.
The main idea I wanted to convey is that the reason why the earth is so colorful is because we earthlings have so many different colors.
Thank you for Angélica Dass's sharing.

I was so moved when i saw the drawings the kids made. It was beautiful. And Kudos to her for not only talking about such a personal and important topic, but also todo it all in a language that she didn't grow up speaking. It takes a lot of courage to even attempt to do those things. Thank you.

I have question for people: Why do so many people who watch ted talks have a problem with speakers that talk about race, feminism and social issues?

You know, with a topic like this that has been an issue for a very log time, I thought there would be a lot of positive comments... However all I noticed was the negative criticism over her project and how the color of the skin shouldn't matter. You know this idea of the "color of the skin shouldn't matter" applies to discrimination and racism... not for what she used it as. The skin is a beautiful and important thing. It's like a nice gift wrap. Some gift wraps come in different colors and patterns. Well skin comes in different colors and unique marks. Skin does matter. It's a part of you. But you skin shouldn't be the reason you a limited to a specific group or label. That is the difference between the importance and the abuse of the color or skin.

The idea is beautiful. It's really very refreshing, informative and more importantly 'touching' talk. Highly recommended to all.

Very inspiring, thank you. I can show this to my adopted child to teach them about the different races and skin tones. I was bullied about my skin colour when I was younger and it affected me throughout adulthood so this is so important to me. I never want anyone to feel like they are not beautiful in their own skin.

She has put her heart into her work and her talk. Btw, this is a truly creative way to educate children that everyone is unique. First, start with children, then I believe, instead of caring about racism, future generations will value different skin colours right from their thoughts. Well done, Angélica =)))
