Acho que os australianos tem mais noção de geografia do que os norte-americanos. Na Austrália quando eu dizia que era do Brasil eles perguntavam se eu falava português. Ou então quando eu dizia que falava português, eles me perguntavam se eu era de Portugal kkkk faz sentido. Um turco uma vez me perguntou de onde eu era. Eu disse que era do Brasil então ele começou a falar “muchas gracias”

I'm from Colombia and my children speak two languages, Spanish and Portuguese because I taught them the language since they were born and I think the number of Hispanicamericans who speak Portuguese as their native language is increasing a lot and the same for people from Brazil because are so near and have too much things in common. 🇨🇴🇧🇷 ❤❤❤

Eu sempre tive dificuldades em falar e inscrever porque nunca falei muito, mas nos últimos anos quis saber mais da minha cultura i por isso agora fallo todo o dia em casa. o português brasileiro (principalmente no sudeste e o sul do país) sofreu influência de países europeus como o italiano, alemão, holandes e árabe, então é comum que nessa região tenha uma característica fonética diferente da região norte e nordeste, que tem influencia do indígena e do português de Portugal.

I speak Spanish and Portuguese and I found them to be similar to learn even though they’re not as similar as one might think. I believe that because I went through the process of learning Spanish it was not so hard for me to learn Portuguese. I hear many times from Portuguese speakers that Spanish is extremely difficult for them to understand and vice versa, and I believe that the biggest difficulty is the pronunciation. However I do think that they’re pretty similar, and despite the phonetic differences and differences in verb endings, if you take the time to learn them, you’ll find that most things translate pretty easily from one language to the other.

I've recently visited Portugal and was told that the Spanish tend to view Portuguese as an aberrant dialect of their own language; whenever they visit Portugal they believe that the Portuguese will understand them if they speak Spanish very loudly and slowly. This behaviour does nothing to endear them to the Portuguese. I was also told that European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese are a good example of asymmetrical mutual comprehensibility; the Portuguese find it much easier to understand the Brazilians than vice versa. (Apparently because Brazilians tend to speak more slowly and distinctly than the Portuguese).
