Your bump doesn't look that bad at all. I'll have to scan through your vids to see if you got the MRI, which would clarify whether or not you actually had a grade three failure. I fell off a ladder onto my right (dominant) side five days ago and my bump is huge. Went to an ortho yesterday who immediately dismissed the idea of surgery. Just like i always manage to pick the wrong line in the grocery store, i picked the wrong ortho. The ortho surgical community is split on the efficacy of operating on grade three joint separations. I can only assume there is a lot of bureaucracy surrounding the issue as it really doesn't make any sense to not repair a joint that was once stabilized by three strong ligaments that have completely torn. At a minimum, I think the ortho should be required by law to thoroughly explain the pros and cons of both surgical and non surgical treatment, advise the patient of the varied surgical options to repair the joint, and always offer and agree to perform surgery to those who have researched grade three tears and have already made up their mind as to how they would like their condition treated. I had AC joint repair surgery on my left shoulder for a grade three injury about twenty years ago when i was in my early twenties and I can say with 100% certainty that it is the right decision. I've had zero issues with the joint in twenty years of heavy lifting in the gym. I have been lifting weights since high school, i ride motorcycles, and i generally lead an active lifestyle. I think anyone who leads an active lifestyle should get the joint surgically repaired. The blowhard ortho did get the hint that i was unhappy with his steadfast opinion and ordered a 3T MRI, but only after i reiterated the details of my lifestyle and experience with the surgery several times as he clearly wasn't listening. It's people like him that need to be replaced with AI robots asap. There are a lot of people that don't have the capacity to do their own research and they believe anything that a doctor tells them is absolute, which is dangerous.

I just did this snowboarding a few days ago as well, it’s crazy that when I look up videos for this it’s usually always snowboarders

Thanks for this video. I am 5 weeks post grade 3 ac separation from a surfing accident. I am doing the conservative approach as well. I am impressed with my recovery so far. No analgesics since week 3. Range of motion good. You are correct about the psychological/ body image thing. My ortho said if you walked through any NFL locker room many of the players would have asymmetrical shoulders. I am a very active....daily weight training and riding horses so that is a bit daunting to get back on horseback. I decided against surgery basically because if timing. Couldn't afford to be in shoulder rehab over the summer as I have a farm. I am also 65 years old so my underwear modelling days are done, but vanity never leaves us.
I will review later in the year regarding the surgery. I expect full recovery and would hate to make matters worse if the surgery didn't go well.

I know exactly what you mean about the mental aspect. I am on day 8 right now. In my case it was just drunk stupidity that caused it. On the plus side I am in my 50s. When you get older the term "life long consequences" becomes less scary. I can live with a bump on my shoulder. I can live with a little less range of motion. I just don't want chronic pain. But for younger men I can totally understand the increased trauma of this.

Thanks for the video. AC Grade 3 just over a week of course 🙄 You’re right about the psychological effects, for me worse than the pain. Going to take it steady and keep gentle exercises I’ve seen others recommend on YT. It’s the not being able to do pretty much anything that’s the worst 😔

Thankyou for this it makes me feel better as im very young at 17 and currently on day 6, it does pyschologically get to you as im very into lifting and rugby which requires strong shoulders and i wonder whether ill ever get back to normal again😅

This helps me understanding what has just happened to me less than 24 hours ago. I am scared that I will never get back to full normalization in my active life. My injury yesterday was caused by a bicycle fall. Full shoulder slam into the hard surface Trail. Icing the crap out of it. I am 62 and this is basically my first sports injury ever.

Thank you for the video, it was very reassuring - Mine happened playing American football.. I was concerned it would affect my weight training, but 2 weeks in, I’m strictly training legs and avoiding any upper body/arms training for now.

Exactly what happened to me but on a skateboard, absolutely brutal pain!! I've also broken my ankle quite badly and the immediate pain from this is worse. How is it going now?

i have ac2-3 but i had so much pain, like 2 weeks could not move hand at all. its been 4 months now and still some pain. also my shoulder bump is really big, like 1cm bump. doctors still did not recommend surgery. but its good to see how other people have healed.

I have some valuable input to add on how I 'braced' or Padded the Clavicle Down with a somewhat flexible **EPS Foam Painting Pad** under the fairly snug
**Extreme KT Tape** to help prevent Too Much Possible Unwanted Displacement while still allowing somewhat limited 'Motion' and 'Flexibility' of the AcromioClavicular Ligament area...

Against Doctors Orders, I have been only somewhat 'restricted' in what I would otherwise have attempted without the additional MacGyver setup I created...

I will add a video soon to visually reinforce my description above...

I’m on day three I feel like my life is over and I’ll never be able to do any of the things that I wanted to be able to do without hurting myself again great video though

Thanks for the video. I got into a quadding accident and separated acl grade 3 exact same thing. On day 3 have some movement but not like you yet. I am in a sling and can handle driving down a smooth road but not much else lots of pain. I am in a sling and going to do a check up next week.

I also do weight lifting and worried if I will ever be able to again. Wondering any other tips or tricks you found along the way? Thankyou
