I had this too. got it during a snowboarding accident. suffered from it for 2 months, after 2 months I was functioning normally again, I can do everything again without having an operation. the doctors in Austria said you will have to fix it with pins, after a second opion in the Netherlands decided not to do this. I am very happy that I left it like this, I can do everything again!

Grade 3 separation from an MTB crash in January 23', ortho didn't recommend repair surgery. Took about two months to really "heal" completely. Bump on my shoulder is there for life but I'm back to swimming (up to 2, 000 yards now per workout), golf swing is no worse than before ;-) and I'm back on my bike albeit, more consciously. I still can't sleep on that side very long and throwing is not the same. Otherwise no worse for wear. I'd say for those of you struggling with weakness /sloppiness in your shoulder, regular shoulder workouts (weights/swimming) are key for me as they help keep all of the muscles around my shoulder tight and compensating for the now missing ligaments. Good luck.

I had a grade 3 dislocation 1, 5 years ago. I had full range of motion back in 3-4 weeks. Only thing I suffered was the calcification process within the first year. This made the bumpy spot feel discomfortable from time to time. Now all is ok, bump stays for life

I caught one of these in a MTB crash ~10 years ago. I was told that surgery was not an option back then. The unfortunate truth is that the bump you get, is NOT the only downside of letting it heal like that. What will happen is a shit ton of calcification, so basically you get bones instead of the ligaments, so the joint is just stiffened completely. Because of this, the shoulder blade will have a real hard time staying in place. Also, this calcification can really mess with the nerves in the arm. I struggle a lot with pain in my shoulder, neck, elbow and bicep, which is all related to the AC issue. If this happens to you, I would say opt for surgery if you can!

I had a grade 3+ separation. 2 years later (in 2022) I had it surgically repaired with tendons from my leg. Rough. There was all kinds of other damage too, to shoulder and biceps soft tissues, along with a fractured clavicle. On the mend now.

MTB accident in July 2022 for me. No surgery. Full range of motion back after three weeks, still stings in some weird positions from time to time (January 18 2023). I'm an electrician and can still operate without any problem during my work day. Stretching, workout and rest are the key.

I just got a grade 3 AC Joint delegation and I am wondering if I will ever be able to go back to Olympic lifting again. I injured this working on my heavy push presses and I’m guessing the heavy weight landing in my shoulders caused this injury.

Dec 14, 2022(3 days ago). I feel off my bike riding at night right on to my shoulder. The night I fell there was no position that was comfortable. Day 3 I can lift my arm to my side no issue, but I can't lift my arm straight forward nor across my chest without significant pain. Saw a doctor(still Day 3). Xray showed Type 3 AC separation. I'm scared ass fuck. I need my motion back. Please let me make a full revovery.

Did mine playing rugby about 10yrs ago. Let it heal without surgery and I have full range of motion. Has anybody recovered and gone back to playing contact sport again (without surgery)?
