Your the only one who made it simple and straightforward about where the tongue should go. So many people on YouTube fail to spell it out for ADD people like me so thank you

33 years! It took 33 years of teeth grinding, allergies, sinus issues, and mild sleep apnea to find this video during a 2am youtube dive while being unable to sleep. TBD how much this will change the above issues, but I did immediately feel a difference in my breathing, just by moving my tongue to the correct position! Magic. 🎉

(Why didn't a single doctor mention this?!?!)

Thank you, and good night. 😴💤💤🛌😅

I was today years old when I found out that my tongue was placed incorrectly. Had had some difficulty understanding about achieving the right position before watching your video. Thank you very much for clarification, as well as enlisting various problems that entail the misplacement of the tongue in resting position.

I was sitting on my couch on a Saturday afternoon and suddenly became aware of my tongue in my mouth. I got curious and looked up: where should tongue rest? This video came up in the search results.

My tongue lies flatly against the roof of my mouth, but the front and sides kind of curl down and lean heavily against all of my teeth. My whole life, since I was a child, I always complained about having trouble breathing. Breathing felt laborious to me and I felt I could never take a full, satisfying breath in. I'll just mention here that I do (and always have had) very large tonsils, and I do breathe with my mouth closed.

As I watched this video, I repositioned my tongue to rest further back, behind my teeth, and I instantly took a huge, very satisfying breath in 😯 Breathing feels effortless with my tongue resting where you said it should rest.

When I was a child, my parents frequently got annoyed with me for telling them I found breathing hard. Numerous doctors told me: "there's nothing wrong with you, you are breathing fine", when I asked why it took so much effort for me to breathe in. Eventually, I just stopped complaining altogether.

This information feels life changing to me. I'm completely bewildered that such a small change can have such a significant impact. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I recently developed a habit of "tongue sucking, " and am trying hard to catch myself doing it and train it out by releasing the suction that is pulling my tongue to the roof of my mouth and/or forward against the back of my front teeth and the teeth along the sides, and making sure my tongue is in the correct position as you described. I think I developed this habit as a way to keep me from grinding my teeth (a long term problem). I didn't even realize I was doing this until I began to see signs on my tongue of painful cracks and scalloped edges. I catch myself doing this many times a day.

Hi Hannah, thank you so much for enlightening us. I have sleep apnea and tried a cpap machine. For me with 20% effectiveness. The biggest problem is when I sleep on my back. The tongue falls down and clogs the airway. If I am not sleeping and pull up my tongue, I can breathe normally. Now I understood the ideal position. The next step is to exercise and do self-massage in these areas.

I had a tongue tie release and 6 months of myofunctional therapy. My daytime habits have improved greatly and I’ve even been able to rid myself of almost all chronic congestion.

My BIG ISSUE is I still sleep poorly. I can often feel my jaw open and my tongue fall from the roof of my mouth as I’m slipping into sleep.

I’m not sure where to go from here. That issue makes cpap hard to use as well.

Leaving a comment hopping more people find this information. I corrected my tongue posture a few years ago. My tongue now naturally wants to rest at the top no matter what. Not easy to get other other people taking this seriously though.

Hellooo, I have two questions!

- How long can it take before it feels normal? Currently I have to make sure my tongue doesn't touch my teeth. It feels like there is tension on it. Do you have to train it consciously?
- Do your teeth have to be on top of each other or is it okay if your top and bottom teeth don't touch?

Thank you in advance!

I I felt like my tongue is too big for my mouth and I was curious to know what other people do with their tongue but thought it was a weird question so I'm very happy to come across this video. It seems very unnatural for me to put my tongue on the roof of my mouth when I am going to be more aware and glad to know there is a correct place for it. Though it still feels too long to be up there maybe my muscles are just not used to holding it up in that position. Also I have broken teeth and even though they've been broken for years my tongue still has the need to go over there and rub against them and that causes it to be very sore so training my tongue to stay on the roof of my mouth should help with that too. Thanks for your video

I'm an SLP. I use proper lingual placement as a foundation for all speech sounds & make the students learn it before moving on with speech sound production. I'm looking for a good carry over video of lingual placement exercises to to facilitate the work we do in therapy at home. Do you have any or can you steer me in the right direction?

I have always suffered with my tongue resting place since childhood. I always felt that my tongue is too big and it always comes out unconsciously and sometimes uncontrollably. Even while sleeping my tongue used to come out as If I have a pacifier. I tried to get rid of this habit as it made my life miserable specially in school (bullying). I think it was because of the last reason you mentioned 4:40. Is there any other way along with the consciously resting the tongue at the right place and treat it once and for all??
