Unprecedented levels of support for Ukraine, high interest rates, high inflation and high energy prices have put the EU budget under significant pressure. The EU's priorities such as the green and digital transformation, the fight against illegal migration, research and Erasmus all need a sustainable long-term financing. The European Commission has recently proposed a revision of the current long-term budget and a basket of new own resources in order to provide additional financial resources to the EU. Will those two proposals suffice to finance the EU's priorities adequately? This EPRS roundtable will bring together distinguished members of parliament and academia to discuss that question.

Speakers include:
Valérie HAYER, MEP, Member of the Committee on Budgets, and co-rapporteur on the system of own resources of the European Union
Margarida MARQUES, MEP, Member of the Committee on Budgets, and co-rapporteur on the proposal for a revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework
Jan OLBRYCHT, MEP, Member of the Committee on Budgets, and co-rapporteur on the proposal for a revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework
Ian BEGG, Professorial Research Fellow, European Institute, London School of Economics and Political Science
Moderation: Tim PETERS, Head of the Budgetary Policies Unit, EPRS
