Urinary Tract Infections - Causes, Symptoms, Treatments, and more

The urinary system is the body's drainage system for removing wastes and extra water. It includes two kidneys, two ureters, a bladder, and a urethra. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the second most common type of infection in the body.

You may have a UTI if you notice:

Pain or burning when you urinate
Fever, tiredness, or shakiness
An urge to urinate often
Pressure in your lower belly
Urine that smells bad or looks cloudy or reddish
Pain in your back or side below the ribs

People of any age or sex can get UTIs. But about four times as many women get UTIs as men. You're also at higher risk if you have diabetes, need a tube to drain your bladder, or have a spinal cord injury.

If you think you have a UTI it is important to see your doctor. Your doctor can tell if you have a UTI with a urine test. Treatment is with antibiotics.

I have had chronic UTI’s for almost 15 years. I have been to several doctors numerous times. They prescribe antibiotics that don’t work. From what I have found on my own, my UTI’s are due to an over abundance of sugars, drinking less than a gallon of water a day, stress, improper Ph, smoking cigarettes, too much sex, not showering often enough, wearing shorts two days in a row. Not usually any one thing, but a combination of several. I find that huge amounts of D-mannose, derived from cranberries, works better than antibiotics, and is a lot cheaper.

My Dad gets UTI’s a lot. He’s 89, waiting for test results. I had to feed Dad his lunch yesterday he was weak. Told Nurse at his LTC he has to be fed, I can’t come in 3 times a day. Lazy CNA’s, they told me he was up wandering the halls at 11-7 shift. So why aren’t nurse’s putting him in the hospital?? Can never get ahold of his Dr. Medical field is failing us all! I’ll continue to be there for my Dad!!

Just here for some info to other people.. I had a severe pain during urination, i had very severe UTI, some days i tried to treat with some medicines but it didn't worked at all. Then i checked myself to the doctor and she checked me and said nothing to worry just triple and triple your water intake and drink water after every half an hour and i started drinking water more and more, And it did wonders within three days, my pain was gone and i was ferling much better.. So better to give our body the amount of water it really needs in a day it will help to avoid these type of dieases

I visit my OB yesterday since I have IUD. I thought my IUD was shifted. Apparently it's still in good shape. However, UTI instead. I learned never hold urine even if I hate using the bathrooms at work because the bathrooms are gross.

I had one when I was 12 and another when I was 13. (Not sexually active at the time.) It was the worst pain I've ever felt. Thank goodness that it is easily treatable!

My UTIs don’t present this way at all, when I get them I can’t pee at all or can only pee a little bit at a time but it’s never painful or anything like that

I urinate many times a day and the burning sensation was so much that I used to die, I couldn't think about anything else I couldn't go anywhere I was sick then I took Utrason syrup and Utracon Now the burning sensation has also ended and I do not urinate again and again, it seems as if all my diseases have gone away

My mom have uti for 7 years it won’t go away. No antibiotics won’t help her no more. Now when she have a bad or severe she starts screaming and shouting calling her mom she passed away 20 years ago we don’t know what else to do

I get urge to pee when at work and when I pee few minutes later I get like foul smell like semen on me or my clothing not sure or is like pee leaking cause of urge any info on this please .
