Hi my name is Dr. Dallin LeGrand Peterson but my patients just call me Dr. LeGrand and I have ADHD and Dyslexia. Growing up with ADHD and Dyslexia was definitely a challenge for me in the academic world. But along the way I learned a lot about how to use my ADHD as a SUPERPOWER! I work with a lot of adults with ADHD and parents that have kids with ADHD.

This Channel is designated to help adults and parents who have kids with ADHD, anxiety and depression. I share my strategies that I have learned for myself to get through medical school successfully and the strategies I have used to help my patients to reach optimal mind performance.

As someone with ADHD I need to work in a flexible job, therefore I work for agencies and all my roles are casual.

ADHD here . I cannot be micromanaged . It gives me horrible anxiety & depression where I won’t want to work. Than I found caregiving . Thankfully being a caregiver I learned I love helping people and it’s just one on one . I’ve been with my client for 10 months now. And I’m so proud of myself !!! Much more relaxed in home setting. I help her she’s happy all is well

But having TOO much freedom, like being in Real Estate and trying to be your own boss with the entire day as your oyster, that can get tricky!!

It's so true. I've worked in IT and networking all of my life. Hated the phone or IT jobs with a set schedule. I work better at night usually so sleeping in is good although I had kids so the schedule worked better with their school hours. It was doable. What I liked better was networking quality assurance because the hours weren't set and we weren't micromananged. But now work my own hours. I have two businesses and my biggest problem are details, distractions, and anxiety in marketing. I jump all over the place. I never know when something is working because it rarely does or I rarely give it enough time to wonder.

I have adhd, worked as a comissioning engineer for big german tech company and hated my life. Had to show up to work at 7am sharp, had to do a lot of boring documentation (guess who never did any) and had burnout after 2 years because it took all my mental energy to do a half decent ob at work as to not get fired. my room was a constant mess, I slept and ate like shit because i was too mentally drained from forcing myself to perform.

I think I’m somewhere in the middle. I need the freedom and autonomy, with agreed-upon deadlines. Also occasional “check-ins” and collaboration. Key word, “occasional”. lol

I can't work in a permanent role, I will as a temp in health care pick my own hours and can pick on the day if needs be, it's amazing 😊

Makes sense. I'm an electrician and I always work hard to be a lead/foreman to make sure I'm not micro managed or have to be on someone else's schedule for the day

Some of this advice is contradicting.

A compassionate micro Manager who you have amazing chemistry with might give you some anxiety, but will help you thrive and prevent failure.
Many ADHD people spend their whole life being fired from jobs.
A compassionate micromanager might actually save them.

Having forever to finish tasks means ADHD ppl will fill up the whole time and might be overworked and miserable

It has to be highly organized disciplined freedom

And here I am working as an accountant, one of the worst jobs for my brain but I’m very good with numbers. My favorite part is researching problems and presenting them but everything else is torture 😅💀

I’ve looked into pursuing something else but I’ve waited too long and can’t reduce my income at all at this point lol maybe one of these days 😁

I hate the pressure to complete work 9-5 where sometimes it’s like a 8-2 // 7-9

I have never worked in my life. That's why my life is so miserable and that's why I'm poor and still living off an allowance and help. I know I won't be able to wake up for work, and I know I can't work if I'm not given any freedom and if I'm given strict deadlines. I wish I could work on my own conditions. I'm even scared to apply for a job because I know I either won't be hired or I'll be kicked out in the first week of my job. Sigh!
