you also gotta take into account thw cost of living in the areas of companies a and b, more income doesn't mean more disposable income.

"vibe" is extremely important. You are spending the majority of your time with these people, so it should be enjoyable.

How does B pay more if it’s a start up…oh, nevermind

In New Zealand, every company is obligated to take a percentage of your earnings, double it, and then put that into your Kiwisaver account for your retirement or first house

There's also promotions to think about! Don't just look at what the current hourly pay is, but also look at how much more you'd get if you plan to stay long-term. If there's no future with the job, then you can always stay for experience and some standard pay before looking elsewhere.

....and after all the comparison, chooses Company B 😁

I’m the same way with my job. I work part time with weekly pay and yeah the paycheck isn’t the highest but everyone I work with is so nice and friendly 😊

I actually had to do this when picking my first teaching job! I ended up going with the school that paid me less because it offered a better community, and better support for me as a first year teacher. And honestly, the vibes actually made a huge impact in my decision! So vibes do make a difference.

I love the list comparing, but personally I break it down a bit more giving a value to as much as possible. For example, how much vacation is valued based on my salary at each and then add that into the toral compensation. Then you can go back to one of the companies to negotiate if you have a preference based on vibe. My last job couldn't offer me more vacation or retirement match but they did increase my salary by 12k and allowed me to take unpaid time off. This helped to compemsate for both my concerns.

Me, watching this even though I want to be a teacher and will have the exact same benefits no matter where I go:

There’s more: in office vs home office? If both are in person, which is farther? Does the potential additional due to the commute maybe outweigh the salary difference? Is one maybe even offering some kind of benefits where you could get your cost for your commute paid?

And yeah… most people don’t quit jobs, they quit managers so vibe is VERY important!

I still wouldn't pick company A if it paid under 15$ an hour. Cost of living is a real thing. I need shelter NOW I don't need dental now. It's sad that's what it's come to but that is the reality we face right now. We have diabetic elderly people deciding if they should pay their bills or get their insulin this month because they can't afford both.

In Australia, that retirement fund is called Superannuation. It's been illegal not to have one since 1980. It automatically gets set up for you either by your first employer or the government when you start working.
The money is paid into the account as apart of your salary. Some companies add it separately, other companies may take a small portion of your overall income to cover it.

You won't be able to access it until you either register for retirement, reach a certain age, or submit a request for acess in an emergency situation.

I chose the company with way too little salary for the first 12 months, over one with a normal salary in the first year with way off vibes. I loved the job and was able to afford it and after a year I got a normal salary for the job, and a year later got a promotion and now have hopped to an even more fun and more money job 😊

In the UK we don’t have to worry about pension savings, healthcare or payed time off. The state provides healthcare and a state pension and the employer is also required to pay into a workplace pension by law, we are also required to get 28 days of paid holiday per year or equivalent if working part time (if you only work 2 and a half days you should only get 14 days holiday- that sort of thing).
We of course do have to decide between things like salary, vibe, company provided laptop or even car… but those basic things I mentioned above are covered by law.

The only thing I dislike about this model is that it weights all categories equally. Definitely helps think in the right direction though!

This is some helpful info that I definitely want to share with my professional development instructor at my university.
While I have worked on games in my field already, throughout my process of getting my bachelor's degree- I feel like I've learned so much from both my prodev courses and videos like these online.
So uh, thanks! I know a lot more now than I did yesterday about comparing companies wages and benefits before deciding which is a better fit for me! Useful insight to have, seeing how tumultuous the creative media industries are at the moment.

Vibe is huge, you NEED to be able to enjoy aspects of your job and I find that being able to learn from it helps stay engaged and focused on your job, the more you like it the better you’ll do obviously

I always look at holiday days. That’s the only thing that matters to me because I like to spontaneously go on holiday or just disappear.
