What if your AMH is wrong?

AMH hormone is a useful #FertilityScreening test used to guide people about how many eggs they have left. The results can be confusing though. Find out everything you need to know about this "Always Meandering Hormone" on today's #EggWhispererShow

Ever wondered what the heck AMH stands for? It’s been a hot topic recently, as women are getting their AMH levels tested. AMH is short for Anti-Müllerian Hormone – a nifty little hormone secreted by the egg-surrounding cells in your ovaries. Think of it as a fertility fortune-teller with a murky crystal ball, giving you some valuable clues into your egg stash. The funny thing about AMH is that I also like to call it the “Always Meandering Hormone,” because your AMH levels can wander month to month and year to year.

Does a low AMH mean you're out of eggs, or going to have a difficult time getting pregnant? Not necessarily!

And a high AMH doesn't guarantee you’ll have an easy time getting pregnant . Remember, it's not the be-all and end-all of fertility assessments.

That’s why you might get different AMH readings depending on when you test. And, it’s also why I like to test FSH and Estradiol levels in addition to AMH to get a full picture of a patient’s fertility levels.

Today on the blog, I’m doing a deeper dive on AMH, and what you need to know about it. I’ve had too many people question if their AMH is wrong, and what that means for IVF, and so I wanted to share all my thoughts with you.

So, don't go scheduling weekly AMH check-ups like they're brunch dates. Remember, it's a slow and steady decline, kinda like the plot twist in your favorite rom-com. So, keep calm and check your AMH when needed – no need for monthly updates, folks!

Bottom line? Get the deets on your AMH, craft your game plan, and remember, fertility is a journey, not a sprint!

Thought I would give people some hope by sharing my story. I’m 28, my amh was 0.22 when I tested it, fsh 14, I have endo that I had a surgery for to remove a chocolate cyst. And we conceived naturally in 4 months! :) low definitely does not mean no ladies, she’s right! and it also doesn’t mean ivf!

This was beyond refreshing! I am 44 and wanting to grow my family again and my gyn swears that at .55 AMH i will not get pregnant on my own even though my FSH was 7 and estrogen numbers were even still good. Im reversing my tubal ligation and leaving it in Gods hands, personally i dont think I will have any problems. But im ready for whatever outcome.

Ladies, get an ultra sound if you have a hard time conceiving! I found out after 10 years of infertility that I had 3 polyps in my uterus that had to be surgically removed. I had no idea.... After that, my periods got less painful and my pregnancy chances got higher. Also check your Fallopian tubes for clarity. I unfortunately had no idea about any of this until my late 30’s.

Also, not all laboratories have the same type of testing method. You may have a huge fluctuation from one lab to another. So do not trust lab results that much. Dr Aimee is right about trusting the follicle count more than AMH...

Hi Dr. Aimee, my AMH is 0.5 but my antra follicle count each month is 11-12. Is the AMH wrong? I do not have endometriosis, and I have normal vitamin D level.

I love your videos! You're so positive and straight forward at the same time! :) I'm acutally pregnant with my first child (35 years old), but I really want another one. Is it possible to do a egg freeze cycle while breastfeeding? Thank you! :)

Thank you for this video. We are 1 year into TTC baby 2. I am about to turn 35 and my AMH is .19. We saw about 6 or so eggs in my follicle scan this week. I am 18m PP and weaned a few weeks ago but have had normal cycles for the last 12 months. I have continued my prenatal, cq10, vitamin d, methylfolate, reversatrol, fish oil, folic acid and iron. I am a walking supplement! Anyway, my OBGYN is going to try 2 rounds of clomid and an IUI. Then I am being referred to an REI. Fingers crossed for another healthy pregnancy. You've reminded me that down does not mean out! If by chance you read this, I would be curious if you might have any idea what my chances my be...percentage wise. Thank you again!

Hey, my age is 31 and my AMH is 0.18 and FSH is 26. I have been married for 3 years.
Went through ivf but it failed and doctor said you are not a good candidate for ivf. As I'm Muslim, donor egg is not allowed in Islam.
What should I do? There is no ray of hope left in my life.

Thanks. I had high AMH 2 years ago at 35 years old 4.4 ng/l and my doctor mentioned PCOS. Today at 37, I have been tested at 1.1 ng/l but bloodwork was done 2 weeks after I got a depot lupron 1 month shot....Can the depot lupron explain this AMH decrease ? Thanks

Can you tell me what it means to be a 35 year old female with an AFC count of 20 ( seems high for age ) but a low AMH value of 0.91, and what advice you might have for pregnancy? How is it possible to have such a high AFC count but such a low AMH value?

I am 27.

FSH- 9.2
LH- 3.0
AMH- 1.626
Estradiol- 42

Am I a good candidate for IUI?

So this is an older thread but I'm going to take a chance. I'm 42. Amh 0.5, fsh 12, but my vitamin D is low. I had eight follicles on the ultrasound and I feel great, I'm in great physical shape. My question is: if I wanted to maximize my chances of successful embryonic freezing what would be the single best method? In other words, if I'm putting all of my eggs in one basket no pun intended what procedure would be the best option. I don't want to have to do multiple rounds of IVF. Quite frankly, I think that would be emotionally draining and it's very expensive. My instinct is to try to go about this is naturally as possible whether that be natural IVF or mini IVF. I do not think my body would appreciate being overly stimulated. I know I'm 42 and if anyone is reading this please do not wait to freeze your eggs. I've spent my entire life dedicated to my education and career and I'm very successful, but I have run up against the clock and it is a terrifying feeling. Anyway, doctor let me know your thoughts! Much appreciated!

I am a little confused about what AMH actually "measures". When you say it predicts how late or early someone will go into menopause that sounds like it says something about the total number of eggs left. Somewhere else I read that that is actually not the case but that AMH only says something about the number of follicles of that specific cycle. Which of this is really true?
